the reason I ask is that I am green blind. I can detect all colors, but I see greens as very muted. This is horrible for photo editing, and drives my wife crazy with asking her every 10 minutes, "is this too green" Just wondered if I was the only one.

Thanks, but here's hoping I do not have to actually accept that.

I am .. as are about 10% of males (many different variations/defects included). I personally have trouble seeing the Red component of certain colors, so blues and purples are easily confused, as are greens and browns.

"Blue" Iris

In my Desaturation entry, I got a comment about some "leftover" patches of color in the putatively gray areas which I didn't really notice. It can lead to some strange results sometimes, as I concentrate more on tonal values than hue, but is more often amusing than annoying, as in these very old entries of mine.

The sensation of purple is caused when the eye detects both red and blue light. For me (red/green colorblind), red appears much darker than to a normal person, so many purples look dark blue. So if you want a high score from me, your photo needs to use a purple on the reddish side!

A question for all you that can see the "right" colors: Technically the color violet (as used in the "rainbow" sense of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) is different from purple, which is a combination of red and blue. Is this what people see? For example, a "black light" emits mostly ultraviolet light that the eye can't detect, but it does emit some visible light at the far end of the visible spectrum: violet. Does this look different from purple?

That's handy ... can you post the main link so we can look up other colors?

The funy thing is I've worked in digital pre-press for about 15 years. I was always taught to use Photoshop's densitometer (Info Window) values and ignore what you see on the screen anyway.

xion: Thanks! That's perfect.

That's the best in my opinion.

you can change the URL to be many different colors. I have not found one that didn't work yet. I do not know if he has a master page for them or not -- but I did email him to ask. ;)

True. Thought I would get a link where it's all on one page.

My brother as a teenager went to school on St. Patricks day and I don't know if you all remember you have to wear green or you would get pinched. He had on a green shirt...so he thought and got pinched all day. It was actually a brown shirt. Of course his siblings were mean and didn't tell him it wasn't green. LOL...those were the days.

I don't see how it could be, it has a different domain and there are no links to the milov.nl color subdomains. Although it does contain a lot of useful information.

I guess it's just another useful page ... I wasn't paying that close attention! :)

One of those "mean" siblings being yourself, of course ... :)

His response:

"Hi David,

I don't yet really have a single dedicated page explaining all the subdomain options, but do check out this recent weblog entry of mine wherein I've posted a link to each colour keyword: //milov.nl/2544

Greetings,

Milo."

And get a 4? Ha! I think I will be less creative from now on, because nobody cares for my creativity. ;-)

I DO!!!!

I think I can relate myself to this whole thing about creativity and trying to see things differently. But we all must understand that we don't know who's voting and how they see things. We should respect their views. Maybe it's how we stuggle to be creative or maybe we just like to rebel. But one thing I know is that I am not going to change that way I see things. I joined recently and so far I have enjoyed it and have seen some brilliant images. I have a lot of resect for the people who created these images. I don't agree with the winning images all the time but no one assigned me as a judge. We all share here. We can be ourselves whether we do bad or good. We're doing something for ourselves and that's all that matters.

Barney's magenta! And I know of no one in my age group (most with children) who like that over-stuffed, general-domain-song singing, excuse of a dinosaur....

It is hard for older folks to except something or someone so kind hearted, but children love him unless told he is stupid. :-)
