Hi
I have to buy a new camera.
Initially i was thinking of going for Minolta Dimage z1, reason was that it offered use of external flash.
Which was very important for my work as i use studio strobes for my work and used to use a digital peanut slave flash to that was triggered by camera's in built flash.
I have not shot many snaps with my old camera a40 and it devloped fault in shutter circuit.I think reason for this was that i used to shoot about 20-30 snaps ( all with flash on) in one go in sets of 4-7 i.e in one session about from 80-150 snaps.
So thought new camera should have a facility to fire external flash hence i won't need to use in built flash.( also have decided to get used flash meter)
Cheapest camera was z-1 which with memory would cause damage of nearly 350-400$.
I won't be able to afford that so decided to stick to powershot.
Well of what i have understood still now about digital imaging, i had choice between a60 and a70, reason i am favoring a60 over a70 are-:
1) is because sensor size's physical area for both 60-70 is 5.27 x 3.96 mm but a70 has an effective sensor of 3.14 million mega pixel while a60 has effective sensor of 1.92 million megapixels, I feel a60 will have less noise than a70, my logic tells me that, i may be wrong
2) A40 i use is also has effective sensor of 1.92 million and i am really happy with output of images, really happy.I just made two 8x10 from a40 and they came lovely.Hence i am not bothered by 1.92 million
sensor, 3.14 would have been great but i will survive without it.
So am i right in favouring a60.Plus i save abt 70$ it means alot to mean, alot.

I have the A70 and friends have the A60. Both fine cameras. A60 is good enough for most purposes, but you may not be able to blow up pictures quite as much as the A70, if that's a concern. I believe the A70 has a better movie mode, if that matters. (I use mine fairly often, actually, and it's a hoot.) But if money is tight, you won't go wrong with the A60. Neither camera has a hot shoe, which I wish mine did. But dollar for dollar, these are/were both fine cameras (the A70 was the hottest camera of them all for a while last year).

ya dollars are tight, i wont need to to blow up more than 8x10 and that too once in a while |

I was just browsing steves-digicam, and saw review nikon coolpix 950, what a great camera offering external flash facility, how come we donot have any more camera like this for 2 mega pixel region

I just wanted to know if i am right eith my concept i.e if u have two camera say X and Y.
X is 2 mega pixel and Y has 4 pixel but physical size of sensor of X and Y is same than Y logically will have more noise than X
My limited knowledge tells me what i think is right, I just want to know am i right or wrong.
P.S both camera have ccd sensor and are of same manufacturer |

Wow, you're on a bump-athon there, Gagan..
The problem is the A60 and A70 CCDs are most likely created at different times, possibly with a slightly different manufacturing process, and possibly with a slightly different material. The result of this is that you're trying to compare CCDs are that not identical in technology. It could be the A70 is better quality, even at smaller pitch, just because it's newer.
Theoretically the pixel pitch (which is kind of obscure anyway, since I believe photosites don't correspond 1:1 with pixels) will make a difference. |
