Hi all,

My local newspaper is having a photo contest with the theme of Summertime Fun. There aren't many rules, and probably fewer prizes, if any. Nevertheless its fun to enter (DPC spirit rubbing alive and well here!) I have two shots I thought I could enter, but I thought I could get some help from my friends here at DPC on which of the two would be better. Or neither, if you think. Any critique along the way is appreciated, as well.

I like the first one, though it would be even better if the girl were in focus. Is there an entry fee or anything else to lose if you enter multiple photos? Why not just submit them both and see how they do? They're both really cute shots. Good luck!

In the second one, the kids don't look like they are up for any fun. They are sitting there and posing. But in the second one the girl does look like she's enjoying it. But DOF is a bit shallow and the girl is out of focus + there's a strong shadow on her face.

I like the first one also, it say's , "SUMMER! FUN! EEEEEEKKKKK!!!" But you might touch up the shadow on her face, I like the DOF, it works for the shot to me, but her face is a bit dark.

Thanks for all your comments. I am going to submit the first one. I did some work on it first, though by taking out some of the shadows in the girls face -- good advice!

they both look pretty snap-shottish to me, although better than the average snap=shot. The fist is good, and has a journalistic look to it.
