Ok. I purchased a new laptop and I've had it a few days now. The resolution on this is double (3840x2400) what my old one had. It's nice to have, super fast and I can process full-size images now without delay.
However, one thing has me baffled. If I resize an image down to 1200 for challenge entry size it's so darn small on my monitor I can't see details enough to know if it's sharp, etc.
I've tried just switching my resolution down to 1920x1200 to see the 1200 image larger, but then I have to change the scaling also, and it still was wonky in the app (app was not displaying correctly then). Tried a 2nd desktop on the laptop but screen settings are global to all.
So ... how do you guys handle this? What are you doing to know your 1200 entry is presentable? |

I just checked and the display settings on my Lenovo laptop have Scale 150% but the resolution of this laptop is 2560x1600. On my desktop the resolution is 3840x2160 and for 32" monitor is 150%, for 24" 200%.
The only way I can check DPC entries is to upload to DPC as it rescales for voting on challenges. I noticed quite often deterioration of quality as compared with the original in Lightroom but I have no answer how to fix it. I really think max 1200 resolution on DPC is rather outdated.
I moved to 3840x2160 6 years ago and then some application did not do a good job of scaling, it is better now. |

Thanks Margaret. I'm going to check some other apps and see if any will display better at the lower resolution.
I didn't even give the DPC scaling a consideration because even with a 1200 image put into 'Preview' it's not correct on DPC. There's some handling of the image that messes it up (only in preview). |

| I've been running a 3840 laptop for several years now. Just set your view of the resized image at 200% and you have a good simulacrum of what it would look like on the older-resolution screen... |

Thanks Robert. I'll try that now. I did find that the old school Windows Photo app displays the 1200 images perfectly for viewing the end result, but that's not a perfect solution because I can't tweak the edit there and also, I have to flip the display settings back and forth to do it. |

| Yep. 200% works (mostly). It's funny, 200% when in a Topaz plugin looks better than the ON1 Photo Raw main view. Then there's Nik plugins ... :-) At least so far in checking the Nik SEP plugin shows the 1200 full size on preview (like the 200% view otherwise). But, when I use Nik SEP on PSP 2023 the Nik app is very small where you can't even read the text for the various controls, etc. Not going to worry about that at the moment as I'm trying to learn the ON1 software for now (although I find PSP easier for doing selections so far). |
