I know we have the DPC App, but I find that a bit frustrating to use with the phone rotation to vote, etc.
When I was using an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy 22) I was able to vote using my phone. Now however, I have an iPhone ... and it's blocked from voting.
The argument USED to be that images aren't given justice using a smaller screen to vote, but now, if we can use the app, what's the difference. |

I’ve just finished voting for the first time on my iPhone. I have to agree with dad‘s comment. It was very tedious to vote this way, and I may never do it again.
Finally, the help and instructions in this app reminds me of the typical method of learning any software: instructions are not detailed, and it seems the best way to learn is trial and error, which isn’t efficient for for me.

You have a right to vote anyway you like, but I find that photos that are not technically that great look better on a phone. Is there a reason why you can only vote on your phone? You don't have a desktop or even an iPad? I've had conversations with photographers on this site, very good photographers who have done very well and we often will talk about photos that have ribboned, where the technical proficiency isn't that great. I'm wondering if that's because of the rise of phone voting, just saying and putting it out there. And Im adding, I know some people dont care too much about technicalities, and you have that right, but that is one of the things I look at when I vote.

I don't have a strong opinion on this, but I know some people do, which is probably why browser based voting is blocked on phones. I understand the blocking is only effective on the iPhone though, which makes no sense. Can you confirm? Please use not just Safari but also chrome to verify.

The app tries to give justice by forcing the voter to view the image as large as possible by re-orienting the screen to match the image orientation (portrait/landscape). |

Note that using the app to vote on larger screens (I think 8" or larger so any iPad) is less tedious and streamlined as no re-orientation is forced.

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with your assessment that many images may look good on phone and less so on desktop screens. However, I don't see how we can or should ignore the reality of the many people using mostly phones to view media. I'm interested in the discussion as I'm looking to find a good balance. |

Confirmed ... cannot vote using either Safari or Chrome browsers on iPhone.
Message displayed when image for voting loads is "(Voting on mobile devices is currently not allowed.)".

Looks like it may be sorted out with the following:
onload event
table "vote_table"
function "enable_voting()"
I did find a workaround though, at least in Chrome anyway ... use 'Request Desktop Site' to show the vote table. |
