DPC Friends--it's time again!

I am a finalist in this years Backroads photo contest with my Canadian Rockies Backroads trip (shot a few years ago...the last trip we took with them was Scotland!).

Once you're a finalist, the challenge is to get as many votes as possible from friends etc. If I'm one of the top 5 finalists, I get trip credit (up to $5000) to apply to my next Backroads trip. Please consider following this link to my photo and voting for it by selecting the up-arrow. My photo is from the Canadian Rockies--a beautiful afternoon with a rainbow.

Here's the page of finalists where you can vote:

https://pollunit.com/en/polls/backroadsguestphotocontest2024

Please vote soon. Voting is only open until Thursday, Feb 13th at midnight.

VERY IMPORTANT: after you vote, you get an email confirmation at the address you provide, and you must click on the link in that email to confirm your vote, or it doesn't count!

Also, as before, it says one vote per email address. For anyone concerned that the Backroads vote/poll asks for your name and email in order to vote, please don't worry, Backroads is a great company which we've used on trips and entered contests four other times. They ask for that info since there is prize money for the 5 winners (in terms of trip credit) and they need to validate that the voters are real. Thanks again!

So I expect we’ll see 3 entries following this post to illustrate current participation at DPC to earn our votes? Deja-vu from last year …

Don't you just hate challenges where success depends on how many "friends" you can mobilise to vote.....

glad2badad - I would have continuing entering except that I take fewer photos, I shoot mainly when I travel, once or twice a year, and the DPC dates never work for me. However, I just returned from a trip Florida, so yes, you are right, I was planning to enter the free study. I had suggested more archival contests--but I kept looking after for a couple of months last time and never saw any contests I qualified for.

I mainly enter now at Photocrowd.com--I enter that weekly, because they are ALL archival, so it inspires me to go back and work on photos I never worked on. There are thousands of entries in each contest and I've done very well, without having to ask people to vote (contests are both judged, sometimes by members, sometimes by professionals, and voted on by members, sometimes both). I just finished 4th in a member judged contest, though I was 384th out of 1500 photos in the crowd vote (the limit for that contest).

Yes, I do as well, but it's not easy to be one of the 25 finalists out of thousands. That's judged/selected by Backroads. And getting up to $5000 trip credit is worth a little bother of my friends :)

It is funny how DPC reflects real world these days

My point is ... someone that rarely (pretty much never) shows up here anymore to enter, vote, post in forums, etc., all of a sudden needs "friends" to vote on their entry somewhere else.

Contests like that, which rely on "friend" votes rub me the wrong way.

Sorry if this hurts any feelings, but that's the way I see it. Good luck.

Woah. You dpc guys are weird now. Back in 2008 that posthumous dude was handing out those hand ribbon things. now those were good days.

Barry, Willem and Fred, I don't think your posts will help ex-DPCers return.

I agree -- Barry I can kind of understand, because he's working behind the scenes and working hard on here.

I figured if a friend from awhile ago shows up asking for help, they've put there time in here, and I'm happy to see them! Hopefully it brings back good memories and they check out current challenges and perhaps stick around. Plus I'm excited to see what they're working on!

As far as I know, Neil was here from the beginning. Didn't he put in his time on site council, as well?

We can handle this. If you don't want to vote, feel free not to. But I agree with Margaret. Let's welcome people back, regardless of why they returned. And maybe we can talk them into staying.

I have a hard time with the "regardless" part, but nonetheless, go for it, and good luck!
