it doesn't matter anymore...in fact it probably never did

Take heart - it is still a great image and one you should be rightly proud to have captured. Those pesky editing rules can get the best of us.

I've been there, Fred. I was once DQ'ed on an entry I was sure was edited within the rule set only to find I was mistaken. Sorry it turned out this way.

You didn’t perspective correct your image and it’s not a panorama. The rules are quite clear.

The way I read the rules, if the edges are no longer square due to perspective correction, you can fill in the gaps - but the distorted frame around which you're filling needs to touch the edge of the final frame, you can't add entire rows or columns of pixels.

That makes me wonder, though... if you had introduced pincushion "correction" and then filled the arc up top, that would technically follow the rules as written. Would that have resulted in a DQ for not following the spirit of the rules?

Interesting...guess we'll never know

THAT would cause quite a discussion in SC Forum, I can tell you that :-)
Fred, we hated having to do this, but there are several precedents where we did the same thing with ribboning images. The following image is a recent example: the original on this one had very little space above the model's head.

On a more general note, it's not especially relevant for people to vote on whether a DQ is "correct" or not, since nobody but the shooter and SC have seen the original. And even if they HAD, there are a lot of precedents that we have to dig up in questionable cases. Simply put, this just wouldn't be a workable system if the whole community got involved, especially since anonymity is out the window once results post.

Thanks Mark...makes me feel a bit better

Fred, I’ve been there too on a FS blue. It’s rough for sure. Take heart that you submitted an amazing image that the crowd clearly loved
