I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but I just finished installing PDF Architect when my screen started flashing and the taskbar disappeared. Now only the task manager is working. I tried Googling it but it's rather hard on my phone.

Does anyone know how I can fix it?

At risk of sounding like a cliche, have you tried rebooting it? That would definitely be the first thing to try. Next up would be to restore to a previous state, though you would have to gain access to Settings in order to do that.

I've rebooted several times and haven't been able to access settings. Can't manage to restart in in safe mode either.

I took the computer to a store which diagnosed and fixed a registry problem. Then the technician tried to reinstall PDF Architect and the same thing happened. At least the second time he'd put in a system restore point so it was easy to fix. Obviously PDF Architect was to blame.

That cost me over $25 for a "free" program that I don't have. Buyer beware.

I usually fill in my PDF forms (I don't get many) using Photoshop but for some reason this one wasn't opening correctly. I guess I'll have to print it, fill it in and scan it. What I should have done in the first place, only my printer was out of ink. I'm certainly not paying for a subscription to Acrobat Reader when I only need it about once a year.

Acrobat Reader should still be free ... I've been using Acrobat since the beginning and I hadn't even heard of "Architect" until now -- what is it?

Also, most browsers these days will also open/print PDFs, though I don't know if they let you fill in form fields.

I've got Acrobat Reader. I guess I'll have to use that to print the form, fill it in by hand and then scan it.

PDF Architect is a "free" program I found in a Google search, though I've read that it's not really free anyway. But all I can say is stay away from it.

Aside from the cost of getting my computer fixed, it wasted half my day.

If the form comes with fields included you can fill those in with Reader and print it that way.

Probably no need to go that route. As Paul posted, you can fill in pre-defined fields in Reader. You can also do other stuff that most folks are not aware of. Open a PDF document. Now click on the "Fill and Sign" tool (looks like a fountain pen tip). You'll see the Fill & Sign toolbar, and that includes a text tool that allows you to put a text box anywhere on the page. You also have other tools related to filling in and signing forms, including the ability to place a graphic of your signature, assuming you have defined one.

Thanks Paul and Fritz. I'll have to experiment with that tomorrow.
