Post your outtakes from the Black & White Landscape VI challenge here. |

Entry
Outtake
About the same time of day, and not far apart, but the elements didn't stand out from each other as well as the one I did enter. Dino pics tend to not meet with mass appeal here, so my entry did as well as could be expected. |

I like the entry but the focus is on the dinosaur rather than the landscape. The outtake is more about the landscape but a rather bland one IMO.
The foreground trees are a bit too much. Cheers |

And that is what I expected would drag it down, though I entered it anyway. Your feedback fits with my own evaluation. Thanks

Entry:
I took 5 exposure capture and created a somewhat garrish HDR blend, then converted to B&W variations from there.
When I viewed my entry on computer at work on first day voting I knew I missed the mark in that it was too dark. Looked pretty good on my calibrated monitor at home, working in dim light. I went back and forth with the levels on it. In the back of my mind I think I knew it was on the edge of being too dark. Oh well.
Here's a few other conversions as well as the other comp I considered.

Steve - I'm in agreement with the dinosaur subject being the key element rather than the landscape. I actually double-checked myself and looked at the challenge type to make sure it wasn't Extended editing. Thought maybe you'd placed that in there in post. :-) |

Nope, it was in the scene. Not a real one, of course. But some of my pics came out looking reasonably realistic. I hit 2 dinosaur parks while I was stuck in Utah for work for 2 weeks.

I gave this 7
although I was not fond of the processing - yes too dark and a bit muddied. But I liked the landscape, sort of the land of sleeping midgets.
After looking at the other images I liked the horizontal line of the tree lane here:
but again, I think you could have done a better processing. The curse of monitors!
I still like your entry. |

The dino
was 8 from me. I liked that it seemed part of the landscape and sky. Some people get very insistent on the topic, sometimes to the point of disregarding a good image.
