I definitely asked Google.
The top result for "Is Bain a word?" was:
Explanation: The correct spelling is bane, meaning something that — maybe slightly melodramatically — ruins one's life. Bain, on the other hand, is a French word for bath.
And under that were the links saying Bain is not a valid Scrabble word. |

It's not legal in Scrabble® because it's considered French/foreign, although the culinary term "bain-marie" is regularly used in English-speaking kitchens ... if you're going to look stuff up online (at least in the A-He range) try the OEDILF first if you want some fun while learning something ... |
