If anyone is interested, Onecall.com is selling the Canon 300D Digital Rebel body (no lens) for $776 after a $30 rebate with Free Fedex overnight shipping. That's pretty darn cheap, and they have a 9+ reseller rating.

That's not bad. however, it's on;y 1k with the lens kit (which I've heard leaves much to be desired) I'm not sure if the lens kit costs $225.

I believe a reasonable price for the EFS 18-55 should be about $100, at which price, it's pretty good value.

Those who already own Canon EF lenses would only need the camera body. Also, for the $225 diffference in price, you can do better than the [normally $100] kit lens. I believe the Canon 28-105 is in that price range, as well as several decent Sigma and Tamron models, and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is only $70.

HINT: A Canon 17-40 L, 50mm f/1.8, and 70-200 L would make a fabulous all-around lens set, and you'd save several hundred dollars by passing on the superfluous kit lens. ;-)

buydig.com has the body only for 761.00 Kit with lens 818.00... Both my dad and I have bought there, took standard shipping and got the camera in 3 days... My Fuji that is... I am still drooling over the 300D

Good tip, Robert. I purchased my Powershot G5 at Buydig, and they were fine. I didn't go looking around for the lowest price when I posted this, I just saw it noted on Dealtime and thought I'd pass it along. For anybody shopping for a digital camera, I highly recommend a visit to dealcam.com.

Well, the truth for me was that I paid the extra for the kit lens, and then sold it for more than it cost me, helping to offset even more of the cost of my 17-40, 70-200, and 50/1.4...indeed a good set of lenses.

Just a note:

The 18-55mm lens that comes with the Digital Rebel kit is about equivalent to a 28-80mm? with the conversion factor of 1.6? last I heard.

This is an excellent lens for the price.
