it's been an exciting but frustrating day......new camera and pouring with rain!

Would really appreciate critique....settings on the camera are so very different from anything I've used before. It's fun playing round, but I do want to be able to achieve what I'm visualising........next purchase will be a tripod!

Sorry, it was either a flower or a fish.......fish is maybe coming later after trying some ps cloning on the background. No editing apart from cropping and resizing. F10.0, ISO100, 1/200, manual mode, flash used.

what could I have done to improve the pic :o)- sue

Congratulations on your new camera. Traitor! :D Just joking!
I think the clarity and detail you've captured is great. I'm not enthused with your subject choice, though. (It looks past prime.)

lol.....but I still love my Sony ;)it's more like a comfy old pair of slippers whereas the canon .......

rose is called mutabulis, an old fashioned single english rose, they always look a bit that way.......looks better on the bush from a distance - and it had been sitting out in the pouring rain all day.

thanks for taking the time to look Marjo :D

here's the fish....it's a bristlenose catfish. I tried to clone out the fish in the background but couldn't do it!

The fish picture looks pretty good. The flower pic looks out of focus and the lighting isn't that good. Looks like you took it at night with a flash? Or maybe with really low light. I think the camera didn't focus correctly from not enough light or maybe you were too close to the flower?

On my camera a red "AF!" thing flashes in the LCD if the auto-focus did work because of low light or being too close to the subject. Did you notice that when you took the shot?

EDIT: Looking at it again, maybe your apprature is to low for the distance you were from the flower. Try setting your camera to "AP" (apprature priority) and then you can adjust this as needed and use a higher setting like F8 to get more of the flower in focus.

Congrats on the new camera!

Well if we are critiquing, I would love someone to take a look at my Yahoo Photo Albums and give me opinions. There is digital artwork along with natural photographs. Take a look and let me know your opinion.
