I recieved a lot of low scores on my image for waiting and I cant think for the life of me why. Can someone tell me if I really deserve 1s-2s-3s I would think a 5 at least for meeting the challenge
I just dont get it!

I give at least a 4 for meeting the challenges. But most people aren't like you, or I.

I got lots of 1s, 2s, and 3s, and my waiting photo I think is on topic. It's not a great photo, but on topic.

I didn't get to vote on all the photos, but I like yours a lot. Would have probably got a 7 from me.

Sally, I gave your pic a score of 8. I thought it showed waiting very well and I really liked the cool image in the mirror in the background. Perhaps others thought it was dark or didn't notice the clever view in the mirror.

I looked at your image and it is definately waiting and like you say it does have some faults as I can see mine does (the arm is too light it may be a little dark) but it certainly doesnt deserve all the low scores I usually give out really low scores if an image is totally awful and if on topic I give a 5 and work from there
I think giving such a low mark when one obviously meets the challenge is not good for a boost to the ego when we are learning as indeed I am it is good to comment and say why the score is so low. Then we would know what to change for the better
Thats my view anyway

i think the problem with this one is your eye is drawn to the lady and it isnt obvious in that dark dress whats shes waiting for, i only noticed by studying the picture and seeing the reflection in the mirror.

it could be you have be subject to the fast voters who quickly glance dont see the point and press any number

I gave it +8 because I think it depicts the challenge very well. I also like the reflection in the mirror.
Meeting the challenge is not a garentiee for scoring above 5. People tent to wote more for the picture than for the meeting the challenge bit.
Also it can be hard to take to see a picture of a loved one scoring low. Shake it off. Learn from it and move on.

I would agree with that assessment Sally...added to the fact that there were a large number of images to wade through in this challenge..I guess that most voters just didn`t put the time out to study the images.
Judging from the unusually large number of submitters who are complaining about their low score in this challenge, (myself included), it would appear that any image that wasn`t screaming waiting at you was punished with a lower score than it maybe deserved.

I thought that I had gone out of my way on this one to get right on topic (two fishermen who had brought their boats in to the side of the loch and were passing the time of day until the conditions dulled down enough to go back out)
I didn`t expect it to win anything but I did think it would finish higher than it did.....We live and learn.

1 agree maybe I am a bit sad my daughter didn't score higher ( a mother thing I guess) I just cant see what motivates people to score 1 and 2s you see it even on top images and pictures that truly dont deserve it I am happy with getting over 50% its just I wanted another opinion
I think that she is lovely and without a scrap of makeup as well !
I think I will just put it in the family album and I know I like it and so did a few others.
I do also think I showed some talent in using the mirror image
Back to the drawing board!

I gave this a 6. It's well shot and composed and not overtly sentimental. It's not stunning however and, judging by voting trends generally it really must be NeatImaged to make it to top!! Just kidding there - ahem.

I think this shot will stand the test of time, ie - still be interesting outside of the brief.

9 from me, as I thought the subtlety was terrific.

Yep, there were an UNBELIEVABLE amount of photos that did not meet the challenge in any way whatsoever that finished above your photo (which I gave a 6 to). I agree this is pretty unfair.

I finished 111th so i have yet to place in the top 100. I thought that my picture was worth a lot more than the score it recieved but we must pick ourselves up, dust down, and move on, as we can see to place high here you should include a cat, flowers or a sunset, maybe even try taking 2 pics an hour apart and adding them both (joking). Whatever it is that gets us these lower than expected scores we have no control over it so 'Chin up' and lets attack the 'Newspaper' challenge.

BTW my picture scored
1 3
2 11
3 29
4 50
5 65
6 58
7 33
8 16
9 6
10 2

I find that most high scorers are slightly cliched images..sunset, bugs and studio shots with a few colours. I prefer more arty images and I think your photo is fantastic when you take a minute to study it.

Saying that I take about 5 seconds per image to vote and your one needs more time than that to get the immediate wow.

I would also say that if the model was a blonde with pink lips it would have scored really well although it would have had IMO had far less depth of reality.

Anyway this weeks challenge of choices I've submitted a more 'normal' photograph from the usual rubbish I submit...and so far looks like at least i'm gonna be in top 20% as opposed to bottom 20%.

I really liked this pic. I gave it an 8. I had it picked for the top 20. It's a great image to have in your collection :-)

From another thread, and I agree with this 100%

I also don't find that a picture of an obviously happy child at play (unless he/she is dressing-up or otherwise play-*acting the role of a grown-up) conveys the idea of waiting just because someone gives it the title, "Waiting to Grow Up". Sometimes a child does wish he was older but "Waiting to Grow-up" is a an adult concept thrust on the child who most of the time is waiting for much simpler things in life; an older friend to come home from school, their birthday, a favorite show, Christmas, etc.

This isn't to say there weren't photos of children that conveyed the idea of waiting. I just don't think you can show any shot of a child and call it "Waiting to Grow Up" and expect it to meet the challenge. That is in the same realm as the blossoms, IMHO.
