My pic in the Waiting challenge did fine (for me). Most of the comments agreed with my own opinion of this pic (background too busy). final score was 5.22 / 67%. The voting was almost a perfect bell curve!
Looking back over my entries in Challenges to see if I have any pattern - of improvements, consistent errors, etc and i find my pattern is inconsitency...
My percentage finishes, most recent going back a few months, skipping none:
67%
11%
73%
36%
50%
61%
4%
85%
32%
93%
What a roller coaster ride! So if my pattern holds, my next entry will be, umm, bad. Real motivation there, huh? ;)

Try to outrule the law and do the best you can... my motivation is when you compare you often find you are not that bad, but i take exemple on the best 10 and try to find why they are here and not me... after that i use that in my other pictures...
Dont take rating too seriousely... having myself vote for 400 pictures in 2 hours... maybe i have not been fair to all of them, but i see the exercise as a way to screen the best one from that worst... after a keep the 7-8-9-10 rating and reorder them....
I take a maximum of 2 seconds to evaluate the picture i rate... if my eye look at it for more that those 2 sec... it a winner... otherwise 5 or less...
That my way to see that... agree or not... we cannot do nothing, just shoot better picture to the always more difficult audience... DCP contender is tought guy !...

Chris, my scores do a bit of the same thing yours do. If I do well on one challenge it seems like I always do poorly on the next. One thing I have noticed that seems consistant it that I do better in Member challenges than Open challenges. |

Member challenges have fewer entries, so that may help?
I had a pic take 9th on a nother website (my best pic finish of any kind ever) and entered it into a nother very small contest and got nuthin. well, in that one you pick the best pic only, and the votes each pic gets determines 1,2,3, etc. I got no votes (7 pics entered, 20 or so votes). Oh well.
Another day, another score!

You have a good attitude, Chris! Scoring is so strange; right now, I am working on the highest score I've ever received in the Member TP & A Challenge and at the very same time working on the VERY lowest score I've ever received (under 4) in the Choice Open Challenge.
Yesterday, one of the pictures from my portfolio was the picture of the day on Steve's Digicams which was was felt nice. |
