Hi all..

I'm trying to get better quality macro photos and have been looking at the macro lens that sony makes for the DSC-F717. Has anyone used this? I've seen mentions of diopters (I think that was the phrase) but nothing about the actual Sony made lens.

Do the diopters really work for sharp focus macro shots on the line of those fantastic insect macros we see coming up in many challenges?

How about the Sony lens?

Any suggestions on something else that might do the job?

Right now the regular macro setting on my camera isn't cutting it so I'm looking for something to boost it.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, diopters do work. But perhaps not as well as the Sony lens. However they are quite a bit cheaper. Depending on what type of shot you desire, you may save a bundle by trying diopters before plunking down the cash for the propriatary lens. Diopters, sometimes called close-up lenses, some in varying strengths, +1, +2, up to +10 are common. Like everything else the least expensive may not work as well as the most expensive. Here's a couple of links that should help you understand how they work:
