I edited my posts to add the photo specs.

Regarding macro couplers - I'm assuming if you have 58mm coupler than you have to have to another lens with a 58mm filter size to "couple" it with. Right?

Thanks and sorry if my question seems a little goofy. I'm still learning about macro ;-)

Do you have a vignetting problem, going from 58mm to 49mm? And once you have it all 'coupled up' what is your method for getting sharp pics - handheld? rails?

No vignetting problem at all. However, I use a reversed 50mm in front of a 105mm Macro lens. I'm sure this will vary with different lenses.

In order to get sharp pics I shoot handheld using 2 off camera flashes. This is an example of my set up.

If you don't have such flashes, you can use your tripod and use available light. However, you'll need really long exposures because you will want to shoot with small apertures (high F number) in order to get maximum depth of field.

This was shot with 2 flashes off camera with my 105mm with a reversed 50mm (F27, 1/60sec / ISO 400).

I think I'll have to write up a few tutorials on macro set ups.

I know we would all appreciate that, Jacko. Thanks!

I don't have much of a point in this post, except to add my welcome to the 50/1.4 club. It was my first prime lens, and a dream for sharpness. With the 1.6 crop factor, it even functions well as a portrait lens, as you showed quite nicely with the cute pictures of the little boy above.

Enjoy the new lens!! Well worth it over the 1.8 in my opinion.
