I have just opened PS Elements a few times and I just played around with the obvious menu items so far. I am going to start the actual "studying" this weekend hopefully and begin to learn the PSE interface and it's panes and tools. I am not at home right now, so can't see the PSE screen, but there are two small panes on the right: one that tells you about the tools as you hover over them on the left, and another one called "Recipes". OK, here is the dumb part: As soon as I leave the tool I was "hovering" over to go over and scroll through the description of what it can do and how to use it, it disappears because I am no longer on that tool. As I said, I've hardly touched it yet, so maybe this is obvious. But I would like to be able to read the "tips" as a beginner and it seemed un-obvious when I was playing with it. Anyone??

A guess: click and hold on the tool and see if you can drag the tip window off from there.
Also check under the Help menu -- there's probably pages for each of those tools, and/or a tutorial. |

I think you need to select the tool to keep the hint active. Also, when those menus get in the way, you can dock them--click on "more" in the menu windows and make sure that "dock to palette well" is checked. Then, when you close them, they're still near by. The palette well is a nice feature for managing menus--be sure to look in the help file and learn more about it.
