I had been considering getting a tattoo for some time and I didn't know what to get. A close friend of mine suggested a butterfly. Well, gee I wanted something no one else would have, butterflies are one of the most popular tattoos for women. Well I got it! A custom one of a kind tattoo using a photo I had taken as a guide (I know there are very similar tattoos like this one but not quite the same one). I showed the tattoo artist the photo told him where the yellow was I wanted pink and now I have a piece of artwork on my foot, created from one of my photos. //www.pbase.com/annadill/tattoos

Anyone else go to any extreme with a photo they had taken?

I always wanted to get a dragon done on my shoulder, but if my parents ever saw it,my dad would shoot me, and THEN give me a lecture .
Did it hurt while getting the tatoo done?
It looks great!

I am like a BIG BABY when it comes to pain and it was my best friend who kinda gave me that push to get it done by telling me I was chicken after seeing his numerous tattoos and knowing he wasn't into pain I finally decided ok I am gonna give it a try. After I got it done I asked him why he didn't tell me that it felt like a bikini waxing. Annoying discomfort but nothing more...LOL he said I never had a bikini waxing.

As for parents...I'm 37 that was my birthday present to me, and my Dad freaked out on me when he saw it yesterday. It's still slightly red (had it done Saturday night)and he kept going on and on about it being infected and all I could say was it isn't infected its just a little red from just having it done. In other words he didn't approve of it.

There is still hope ! :-) When I was a young man (many moons ago), my mom and dad thought I was nuts for wanting to get my ear pierced(this was about 1979, not as popular as nowadays for guys)but with a little help from my sisters, my mom took me to get my first piercing at age 15. Much later I got a couple tats and my mom to this day doesn't approve. The main point is, I took my son to get his eyebrow pierced for his 16th birthday with my full approval and permission. He wants a tat, I told him I look forward to taking him after he turned 18 so I can make sure it's a clean sterile place, and that he gets good work done. So as you can see, there is hope. You don't have to turn out exactly like your folks ! Although I am sure, like mine, they had a lot of good wisdom to impart on ya too. :-)

Very well said...I hope when the time comes I remember how my parents reacted and I don't react that way.

When my daughter got her tattoo, I have to admit I didn't like it. I still don't like it. Not so much because it's a tattoo (although I still think it's silly to do something so permanent at so young an age), but I just don't care for it artistically either. A butterfly would have been nice. :( Oh well.

I will also say that my daughter is one of the finest young women you will ever meet. Getting a tattoo does not indicate a flaw in character!

How very true what it does indicate though is a form of self expression.

I always wanted a tattoo when I was younger (rebellion?) but didn't. Mind you, on my 40th Birthday I did 3 things, started calling myself Andrew rather than Andy/Andi (in the real world), began smoking a pipe (I no longer do that) and got a tattoo of my mother!

Imagine her horror when the padding came off and she saw a winged serpant tattoed on my calf lol.

LOL too funny. I decided on the butterfly cause it represents a freedom to roam, as was said in Forrest Gump "I wish I were a butterfly so I could fly far from here."

My little boy however is very upset and I am probably going to have to get a second one that is a heart with his name in it. He looks at it and says "Mommy don't you love me?" Geeeesssshhhhhh I didn't want to give him a complex when he gets older but seems I gave him one now cause he doesn't think I love him.

Sorry, but I don't like tatoos. They destroy the beauty of skin, line and shape. I guess I'm a parent type.
