[quote=BradP] Even if they don't meet a challenge's requirements, they do meet the site's requirement of creating the best photos possible.

Even if they don't meet the challenge??? I thought that was what it was all about?

Hi Brad,

Did you read the rest of my post? I said that I try to support anyone who is posting nice photos on the site and to offer as much encouragement as possible, but if a photo doesn't meet the challenge, then I never give it more than a 5 rating. The other 5 points come from the overall quality of the photo. That way, really nice photos that don't meet the challenge theme don't automatically get a 1. I think that's a pretty fair way to judge contest entries.

As dumb as you may feel the audience is, we are the norm here at dpc. We voters are an ever changing group that always includes many new to the site and new to photography. We voters are the ones who have the final word on whether an entry meets the challenge. Why would you call us dumb because we perceive the same things as you do? If you perceive that we will not understand how your entry meets the challenge, and feel you need to prop up the connection with your title, then you have perceived that your entry is stretching the topic. If we voters score it lower for being a stretch, as it desreves, we are only as dumb as you are.

I was so amazed that my picture did even worse than my snap-snap banana shot!!

I even had 9 people voting a 1, 14 people a 2 and 40 (!!) people voted a 3!! I only vote THAT low if a picture is AND out of focus AND not meeting the challenge AND has no composition or thinkwork whatsoever AND etc. I mean, to those people my photo must seem really awful to vote a 1, 2 or a 3..
That just leaves me speechless...but what makes me sad are comments like: not a really imaginitive interpretation of the challenge..come on! In my opinion I just wanted to add some humour into the photo, so I had (obviously, see the shadows!!) two lightsources on a lamp..that was my bit..so you didn't laugh, you just voted a 3 and got high on almost the same picture of flowers and THREE light sources...I really don't get it...
I do think that's a pity, because I want to learn something too from the challenges (apart from the fun bit when I shoot pictures for the challenge :) ), but this I just don't get..

Oh well...I'll go to bed in a minute and tomorrowmorning first thing I do is check the starting scores on yet another challenge! I'm still looking forward!!!
Good luck everybody!!
