I wanted to know if I can use a Vivitar 283 flash with my Nikon D100

Does this camera have the correct voltage to support this flash?

Thanks.

I am planning on using the Vivitar 285 with my Olympus P&S but was told that these flash units have different voltages than digital cameras and if you are going to use a dedicated cord that you need to use a SAFE SYNC cord or else you could fry your internals on the camera. But even then, I'm not sure I want to take a chance, so I'm planning on using it as a slave unit completely non-attached to the camera, just to play it safe.
