Yesterday my lens when crazy, would nt work on my rebel, was vibrating, getting error 99 and error 1 messages every shot (all of a sudden) turns out just was just the battery, tho the battery was reading half full still. Just curious if anyone else had this experience? |

When my battery gets low and I'm using the IS mine has a tendency to have a mind of it's own too!
I don't get errors, but it has a real hard time focusing, won̢۪t take pictures, etc... |

I have not had these problems yet, even with a low battery (knock wood). Then again, I have a different camera. Not sure if that makes a difference or not in this case...

i have heard that IS sucks more energy than a non-IS lens |

I was told that IS is a real battery drainer but as far as I can see it only comes on after the shutter has been depressed half way. If I get an error on the 75-300 I'll make sure to turn off IS as a first possible cure (my first 'extra' purchase with the 300d was a spare battery).
doh! edited as I don't know the length of the lens

I have had this happen in low light where the AF was having a difficult time. I would get the err 1 message and have to slighty detach the lense to reset. After that and in good light I had no other problem with the IS, and using the same battery. |
