I am new to using RAW files, and I just bought a Nikon D70. I took some photos in RAW mode, and downloaded them to my computer. They are NEF files, and I can open them in Nikon Capture (4.1). Do I need to convert them to a TIFF file for photoshop to read them? I can't get the NEF files open in PS CS. Thanks for any info you can give me!

		| Although PS7 doesn't say that it is compatible with NEF, I can open them easily directly in PS. PS CS does claim to be fully compatible with NEF. |

You can use the Nikon View/Edit that comes with the camera.
From Nikon Edit you can send the RAW/.NEF file to Photoshop for further adjustments. |

YOu will need to download the free (upgrade) plugin of Adobe RAW 2.2 and install it into your PS folder.
I only use PS, because I hate NikonView's hacked down features from Capture (not full RAW control like in PS). I have felt since I bought my 5700 about 3 years ago, they let you try Capture when that is the program they should be bundling with the cameras.

		| I open my NEF files directly in CS. There is a step before the file fully opens in PS that allows you to preprocess the RAW file, but I personally find the main functionsin PS to be easier to control. |

Thanks for your help! I downloaded the Adobe Raw 2.2, and everything works fine now. Thanks again!
