We re splitting hair now.
The fact is that the ART challenge got a lot of participants and a lot of comments.
Let's not go into popularity votes, popular challenges or semantics.
If we can duplicate or multiply the experience, anyway we want to call a challenge, it would be nice

I have not responded in this thread yet because I'm happy to try for "art" no matter what you label the challenge. That is my goal in this always.
I'm not sure why there are more entries and comments when you CALL the challenge "art". Let's see how the entry numbers compare to "best of".
Or perhaps it's the juried aspect?

It gives us a chance to play with being artsy, both in thinking and in entering. It's hard to get the nerve to do it, sometimes. |

All this discussion is fine, and most likely nothing will come of it at all.
That being said, would the world, or this site be worse if every month there was an "ART" challenge, and only once a year an archival "free study?" |

It would be different for sure. Better is subjective. Someday maybe I'll care more about how I place than if my entry is artsy enough for my own taste. |

We'll see if we can work out a way get more "art" challenges into the lineup. I'm pretty sure it won't be one-a-month, but it'll be more often, at least. Query: will y'all still consider it to be an "art" challenge if it is also "themed"? For example, just off the top of my head, "Art of the Everyday" or "Art in the Mundane" strike me as feasible challenges...

Regular challenge (i.e 2 week window) ... not an "check your archives" type challenge, correct? If so, then sure, I wouldn't mind seeing more "Art" themed challenges worked in. Wouldn't be much different than what we do today. |

Sounds good. Makes it a little more "challenging".

Thanks Robert, sounds great. Somehow- even though absolutely no one can agree on what "Art" is, or to the extent photography is art or "fine art"- even given all that, if you put "art" in the title of a challenge, almost everyone goes into "DPC art mode." And to me, that equals good results. Thanks for the discussion as well, and that goes out to everyone. |

This is the catalyst ... SC driven. Tossing in "artsy-fartsy" stuff. Ok. I get it. |

I find it really hard to understand just exactly what it is you are trying to say. |

He was trying to say Avant-garde challenges will be part of our future at DPC.
