An oppurtunity has risen to where I could possibly get a 3 month old D100 for the same price as a new D70. The 100 includes the 2 sigma lens kit. My question for you is, do you think its worth it? or Should I opt for the 70.

I don;t have the Nikons, but if you had asked me that a few days ago I would have said it was a very tough decision. Then a read an indepth dSLR review in a mag yesterday, and now I think I would go for the D70 even if both cameras were the same price new (though there is probably more to the D100 that negate that).

A post I did yesterday that pretty much fits this example exactly:

The key passage below: "(D70) Knocks the spots off the D100 in terms of image quality and performance, and comes in 500 quid cheaper. If you've got Nikon-fit lenses, you need to check this out".

**************************

Digital Photo (from the UK, not to be confused with a zillion other mags with very similar names) has just done one of the many group test style reviews of digital SLR's.

Their reviews tend to be good and, I believe, unbiased.

Without all the details, here were the results:

Canon 10D 93/100 (Gold award)
Nikon D70 92/100 (Silver award)
Canon 300D 91/100
Olympus E1 & Fuji S2Pro 90/100
Pentax 1st D 87/100
Sigma SD10 85/100
Nikon D100 84/100

What really surprised me there is where the Nikon D100 came out, although I admit all the results were very close. The comment they had by the Nikon D70 was ...

"Knocks the spots off the D100 in terms of image quality and performance, and comes in 500 quid cheaper. If you've got Nikon-fit lenses, you need to check this out".

The D70 seems to be getting some really great press out there, and where as I do prefer my 10D, if I were shopping from scratch and budget was a major issue I think I would go for the D70 over the 300D.

I have never used a D100, but I do have the d70. The d100 is already a bit older technology, so if you do want the latest and greatest, the d70 would be the way. I guess it also depends on your budget, and what lenses come with that d100. if they're 2 cheap low quality lenses, then you're not doing yourself any favors. the kit lense that comes with the d70 is an awesome lense to compliment an awesome camera. While i think the d100 kicks ass, and wuold be a great camera, it seems that from what i've read and seen, that the d70 has newer technology and more features.

i think we'd need to hear some opinions from some d100 owners or people who've used both, as my opinion is obviously a little biased ;)

Think it depends on the quality and value of the lenses wich are included. If they are worth the value I would go for the D100 but if I were you I would stick to the Rebel and invest in glass for the value of new D70.

Personally, I would go with the D70 because it's new and you have a warranty with it. You don't have one with the D100, right? The D100 is older technology now and even though it's only 3 months old, you don't know where it's been and what it's been through in that time. Why is the owner of the D100 selling it after so short a period of time?

In this thread the D70 spanked the D100.. I'm not a Nikon owner, but I'd go with the D70, it seems a lot better.
