We're doing a bit of an overhaul on the portfolio manager for DPCPrints. What ideas do you have for a general image manager? What problems do you encounter when working with the portfolio manager? What aspects of the portfolio manager shouldn't change one bit?
Thanks for any feedback you can offer.

Ability to control the order in which images appear on the prints site, even if the images are in diffent portfolio folders, would be incredibly useful and is often requested. If this ability already exists, it needs to be documented.

I've seen threads where a "Photographers Favorites" has been asked for. I think it's a feature where you can choose which photos appear and in what order on your profile page. Is that applicable to this discussion?

This may not be the place (?), but I find it very time consuming trying to "arrange" my portfolio (put them in an order that I like). I wish we could drag & drop instead of moving them one at a time with the arrows. Just a suggestion ;o)

Here are a few more suggestions for the "portfolio manager":
1) have the ability to order collections (a.k.a folders). Right now, collections are always sorted alphabetically.
2) make the nomenclature for indicating an icon is a "collection" more obvious. Right now, you just have to "know" that the brackets indicate a "collection of other images". Perhaps the icon for the collection can have a special "border" (such as a stack of images) to make it more obvious to someone browsing a portfolio. |

1. Moving objects (image or collection) into another collection should not also move you into the destination collection.
2. Selected image options and Collection options are awkwardly placed. It would be nice if they were vertical instead of horizontal.
3. Use of italics to indicate hidden collection in the Your Collections tree is not really clear enough. Color might be an alternative. Other than noting that Show Collection or Hide Collection is available as an option, it's not really clear at all that the collection is hidden.
4. Browse Collection and View Photo Page aren't immediately clear in their intent nor is their placement obvious. Some indication that it's really (more or less) what others will see would be helpful. Also, it might make sense to also have the Edit Portfolio Image thumb to be linked to that view.
5. It would be nice if a collection could be "represented" by an image in a sub-collection.
6. Inheriting hide/show would be useful (perhaps as an option).
7. Increase the space available for keywords.
8. Provide warnings when keywords will be ignored in searches.
9. Details and Description don't seem sufficiently different to me. I usually expect the Description box for a print to be what I entered for the Details.
10. If a print is available for an image, a mouseover (title attribute) showing available print sizes (and maybe prices) would be nice.
11. The Begin Selling Now link seems like an unnecessary extra step. Most of what's there could be put right in there with the Edit Portfolio Image page.
12. Setting default prices for all image sizes would be nice. New prints would inherit these values and would retain inheritance if the defaults were changed. |

How about the ability to "Copy to" a collection, a la pBase? That is, the same image can appear in multiple collections (via a referenced link) while only being uploaded to disk once. It gives people browsing the collections some of the functionality of a keyword search, since the same image might appear in my "Landscape" and "Sunset" collections. |

for ordering prints, I would like to see some way to order 1 image from my portofolio and send it to multiple address in my address book, and possibly multiple copies of the image to a few names in the address list while others on the list only receive 1 print.
Today you have to do 10 orders if you want to send a photo to 10 people.
No biggie if it cant be done
