Hi everyone,
I just bought a Nikon D70 and took it out for a spin at a conservation area near Vancouver, B.C. Here is an orphaned Grizzly (a female, five years old), as well as an ostrich and an antelope. Would love some comments. These are my first photos with this camera and I left the settings on default - just to see how the camera performs, and then I can modify later.

gratz on your new camera... i had d70 about 2 months now i think and i love every photo i take with it... i am sure you will too.

The bears looked a little light to me at first, but then they grew on me. I mean, I loved the photos immediately, but the "lightness" even grew on me! The ostrich is fantastic! The antelope is a good shoot , but less interesting to me. You have a great new camera!!!

The bear, Christina, is I believe this one (below). She is a grizzly, but her name is 'Shadow'. ;-)

the ostrich shot is really great. would make a great print i think.
zeus, the grizzly shot is really nice as well!

The shots are nice, but a little too light for my taste, which I think is a result of the automatic settings. I find that if you underexpose by one stop (in aperture priority mode), you'll achieve richer color and contrast. Congrats on your Nikon D70. I just recently purchased the Nikon D100 myself, and am having a devil of a time with getting good results with the 3-D matrix metering mode. Haven't figured out the secret yet.
