another question sorry.....why when I'm taking pics on the 2560 (3:2) size setting do I get 1.7MB, 1.99MB, 2.25MB.....it varies and there doesn't seem to be any reason why? Took some today and they varied in size from 1.68MBs to 2.27MBs. Would love to know why and how to influence the settings.
thanks

Pictures with lots of black are smaller, and pictures with lots of white are smaller. Pictures with a lot of different colours etc are larger, as there is more info to store, and less places for unnoticable compression to take place. Also, noise creates more "detail" so high ISO shots will generally take up more space too.

Hi Sue
This happens on all cameras, its because images compress differently. Some images aren't very complex and compress very well, others have more "data" and don't.
I'm sure someone else can give you a more technical explanation if you want, but thats the short version.

Sometimes when I'm starting to run out of memory, I 'll take b&w shots, pretty much the only use of 8mb cards. |
