I´m starting to use Neat Image and have a question I´d like to get answers to if anyone should know

I open a file that is 1.15mb size and filter it in Neat image and when its done with it, its as small as 189kb.
Same resolution though .....

Wouldnt that affect print quality?

What version of NI? The demo only saves low compression - like Photoshop at a 5 or 6 setting. The Pro version lets you save at 12 (best) compression or even TIFF.

I have NI 4.0 Pro so I can't really go back and help - but I'm not sure what is wrong with your NI if you can't see the .tiff file.

??

If the file is the same resolution and is that small, then one of two things (or both) is happening:

1.) Way too agressive use of NI (very smooth image = very low file size)
2.) High compression

One or the other (or both) is the culprit. I only have v 4.0, so I don't know how much help I can be regarding actual menu selections. I can tell you that I rarely use 100% reduction on the "noise reduction amount" sliders, more like 70% on high-frequency, down to 50% on low-frequency.
I find that for 800 ISO images, I get file size reductions of approx. 40% after running about as heavy a NI pass as I would ever use.

OK, ran a quick test on a 3072x2048, 2.4MB input image from the 10D @ 800ISO.

My "normal" NI application, saved JPEG at 95%, 1.4MB
A very aggressive NI application, saved JPEG @ 95%, 883kB
Same aggressive NI + save @ JPEG 50%, 190kB

I think there is your answer, you can't drive the file size that small with the filter alone, you need high compression.
Just a silly question, but when you do a help/about on your version, does it show the correct version information and your name, not "demo"?
