world wide photo walk
8th Annual Photo Walk

I am so excited, I am signed up to go in my area, but I think its always fun to meet up with other photogs.
Never been on a walk in a group before so I think it will be a blast!

Wanted to throw this out in case any of you wish to join within your area :-))

I did this a couple years ago in Princeton, NJ and got to meet some folks from a Nikon forum there. It was good fun (our walk leader was so-so, so we abandoned the after party and met for steak sandwiches at Hoagie Haven - a must if you're in the area).

I considered leading a walk at Bethlehem Steel this year (someone is currently doing one), but it's coincident with an Oktoberfest celebration, which makes for great party pics, but not great if you want views of the structures. The other two in my area are places I shoot regularly, but I'd consider going if others I knew were coming out. The Easton, PA walk has the more promise.

(edit)

Never mind about Easton. I removed my reason for why, but if you need to know just PM me.

I'm signed up in my area. I have done the walk three times before, and it is always fun.

I was really disappointed with my group last year for this. I met up with them, then within about 5 minutes they took off and I never saw any of them again. Very odd. So not planning on doing it this year.

If you're into shooting inside of churches I'd highly recommend getting there early, finding the Chapel and shooting inside when there's nobody/fewer people there. I did that 2 years ago getting there at 8:30, and by the time 10 o'clock came around and the walk started there was a wedding getting started. Campus is great to shoot at regardless, but the chapel may require some time, a tripod and some patience.

Do you want to come again this time? Also having a tripod won't create any issue inside chapel right? no permission to take either correct? I haven't done so want to make sure :)

I grew up in West Windsor when it was farm land and know the University like the back of my hand. I've shot there many times and don't really want to do another photo walk there, but thanks for asking.

The University Chapel is generally wide open and provided there isn't a scheduled activity there people are encouraged to walk around, though some parts are roped off. Tripod is no problem, again as long as nothing else is going on where it would interfere with people walking around. Generally it's kept rather dark, so if it's bright outside you may need to take some extreme exposures for a suitable HDR. I think this one was 9 or 11 images at 1 stop. I probably could have done it with 3 or 5 images, but I'm happy I took the time.

I got approved to be a walk leader in my area. No one has led a walk here in a couple of years so I decided to give it a go. I have a whole three walkers signed up... I hate this area, it is loaded with photographers but no sense of community.

Thanks. Nikon 16-35mm f4 at 16mm, so almost.

That is a great shot!!

Our walk will be all outside in the downtown area, normally on the river at my favorite lock and dam where my eagles go, but the thing of it is, there will be no eagles to shoot there until a few more months.. Hopefully I can get some pelican shots at least..

Do you guys take your tripods too to these events or just the walk around lenses? I will be taking my macro stuff with me too I am thinking

Tripods often depend on what you want to shoot, but some photographers will use them all the time. I've never been one to stare at something, get it framed absolutely perfect in a camera secured to a tripod and fire away - but I see a lot of people who are. I could probably benefit from some of the patience and technique involved, but it's not what I do - at least not yet.

That said, if you're near water then there are always opportunities to use 9 or 10 stop Neutral Density filters and fire off long exposures. Some lighting situations may cause you to want to do HDR.

Suffice it to say if you bring one you won't be the odd person out, and neither will you be if you don't. If you've got a light one that attaches easily to your bag, bring it. Better over packed than under.

Did this once, and it was fun. The chimping party was quite an eye-opener. It's when I realized you can put 100 photographers in the same place and have 100 incredibly different images.

Might try it again this year.
