Comparing him to jmritz seems to miss the point of both gentleman's work. If you pull out that tired old cliché about the final result being all that matters, then I suppose you can find some superficial similarities. But of what I know of each, their motives are about as different as can be.

I have a lot of respect for a photographer who builds his own camera out of what's around him, just like I have a lot of respect for a painter who makes his own paint (and brushes and paper, as a bonus).

These are the ultimate gearheads.

Indeed. I think I read that Tichy fabricated his own lenses from used plexiglass. My hero!

yes, I thought of you. and he used a bottle cap for something. and rubber bands.

I like the image where the housefly landed on the print while exposing.

Not sure if it's because that's something we can NEVER get in digital work, or if it's because the fly was sharpest/most in focus subject in the entire collection. ;-)

Well, Modricker wraps his lens in saran wrap and other stuff, is what I thought of, and he's fabricated some weird junk I think. Plus the IMAGES share that haunting here-but-not-here quality. I think they belong on the same shelf in the library at least. The one that has the self-motivated artists that live on the fringes...
