cant believe this photo didnt win, thought it was the most
spectacular, un-contrived, natural shot, suitable for national geographic.

Uh.. laundry?
05/26/2004 01:07:47 AM · #3
I really liked it too. However, I can't say that doing laundry is a "habit" per se ... Anyway, I still marked it pretty high and expected it to come in the top 10 (and it did, congrats librodo).

This one:

of course laundry is a habit, a necessary one, unless you have someone else to do it for you.

Also thought that doing laundry is not a habit but a chore that needed to get done. Even then this wass one of my top picks. I thought of Librodo when I saw the entry but wasn't sure. Turned out it was his.

Congrats to Manny.

My mother loves to do laundry, daily at 6 am she is on !
I call her Laundrina :-)

My definition of habit would not involve laudry.

Forgetting to do the laudry and having to wear dirty clothes would be a habit, but doing the actual laundy isn't.

That's why I didn't vote this picture a 10. It was still my top pick with a 9, though. Well, at least it was in the top 10.

I wouldn't call it a habit either, but it's still a great shot :)

I found this the best of the one I voted for, much better than the ones who got the ribbons.

And of cours doing the laundry is a habit for many.

Does your mother feel like adopting a middle aged man?

Doing laundry is not necessarily a habit, but if one does laundry EVERY SUNDAY, rather than just whenever fresh clean clothes are needed (as the title of the photo suggests), then it has become a habitual behavior.

Humans can become robots for certain things, and those things are habits !

from m-w.com

habit
7 a : a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance b : an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary
05/26/2004 11:25:25 AM · #19
If we look past the title and at the details of the picture, we may notice that the young lady is surrounded by spray. 'Shaking off the water before hanging the laundry' certainly strikes me as an odd 'habit'.

I cannot see how anyone would mark this entry down for failing to meet the challenge. Apparently, many did, however marginally.

What does this mean?

Great shot, but not a habit. It is a need and a must. Trust me, I do not have a habit of doing laundry. Ewwww...laundry. I have to do the laundry to keep my kids clean and smelling good.

A habit is more of an addiction. Right?

From www.dictionary.com
1. A recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition.
2. An established disposition of the mind or character.
3. Customary manner or practice: a person of ascetic habits.
4. An addiction, especially to a narcotic drug.

So drawing from 1 & 3, doing the laundary is a recurrent customary practice. Therefore, a habit.

Yup

Superb shot ...I voted it 10 and left a comment

I also checked the Oxford Dictionary definitions BEFORE blasting any other entries about "not being habits"

soo..doing laundry is a behavior? Not! It is a need for me. Sorry I still don't think of it as a habit. If this is a habit, than everything is a habit. hmmm...sorry. Just to ease your minds. I didn't vote. :-)
