is it? I'm pretty sure some people here could score higher with a minimal edit than one using expert.

Any challenge topic but the choice of editing rules is yours

addition rule - you must start the image title with either 'minimal', 'advanced' or 'expert' else consider yourself DQ'd

Probably not possible but it would be good to give ribbons to the highest scoring images from each edit type.

This would effectively be a Free Study with expert editing then.

Probably didn't explain myself properly, 'any challenge' topic meant it wasn't part of my suggestion, Langdon would get to choose the topic, it wouldn't be a free study and why would you think everybody would choose expert editing? surely I'm not the only person that doesn't think expert editing is the only way to go?

I'd like to see how minimal, advanced editing would stack up next to expert edited shots ;)

Maybe just make the challenge something like "leading lines" or "depth of field" -something that would not necessarily benefit any style of editing ?

Sorry, I misunderstood the challenge part, but the only way to allow what you propose is to make the challenge expert editing. There is nothing stopping someone from using minimal or advanced editing in an expert challenge. The editing rules simply set the upper bound of what is allowed.

This would really come down to the challenge topic. It would have to be something that can give a reasonable chance to produce good entries with minimal editing.

I think a slight change for what you are proposing would be more interesting. Have the same challenge in each editing format over 1 or 2 weeks, with the special rule that it HAS to be the same base image for each entry. While the number of entries for expert might be lower, there should be no issues with minimal and advanced.
