Thank you for posting this. As some of you know, I had the chance to meet Imogen Cunningham in the '70s when she spent a lot of time at Blanche's, a sort of restaurant in China basin. She and Blanche were friends along with Ruth Asawa and they made that little place a haven for good art and conversation. She served crab cocktails and (if she knew you) wine in real glasses for lunch (otherwise you got plastic). Imogen had a book signing on Blanche's deck on a sunny San Francisco afternoon. I still have the book. The ladies are gone now, the place is no more...

Heck, I remember Blanche's. What a sweet spot that was. I suppose I must have met Blanche, but (sadly) never Imogen. Heck, maybe I even met YOU, Alice :-) Beautiful article, BTW.

No way! Yeah, those of us who worked at KQED in the early days (Jim Day, Jim Scalem, Jon Rice) made the pilgrimage over to Blanche's every noon. Ah, those were the days.
Okay, back to regularly scheduled programming.

You may have met my mother -- her improvisational comedy group (The Illegitimate Theatre) did some shows at KQED in the late 1960s ... I kind-of miss the auctions -- not so big a fan of pledge weeks ... |

when/if Lost ever gets here and we have that GTG, we'll have some serious reminiscing to do, for sure.
Yep, franktheyank, glad you posted that article. |
