Bumping so no one who wants to enter misses out. More entries in Rule of Thirds than in Free Study this month. |

Ok, after 8 votes I'm sitting at a 4.3 with an entry I would've expected to be around a six. I don't know if it's DPL-skewed (I'm not participating) or I'm out of touch with where this community is going, but I think it's time for me to move on. |

Started 6.25. After a few more votes, down to 5.25. I thought it was a good one, worthy of a tiny violin at least. Very surprised to have received that many sub-5's already.
Nobody, I've seen that trend now while DPL is on, score starts nicely, takes a nice big dip, then comes back up to decent. |

Likewise, after 8 votes I was at 4.55; after 11 votes, 4.81. I also expected 6.X, so shaking my head a little. I've long since devalued this very early voting, though, since it seems that some voters go in and do "binary voting" to rank, then go back and re-score later. It's also very possible that DPL voting is having an effect, but I would reserve judgment on that until later in the voting week.

At 12 votes, mine is at 5.4167 which is disappointing - BUT realistically the most I hoped for out of this one was a high 5 and it MAY get near that yet. It's early, early, folks.
I see absolutely no reason for DPL voting to affect a Free Study. It's not as if it counts. |

I think the DPL voting has actually been pretty good this year. And the DPLers know that free studies don't count. But I'm at 5.9 for a shot that I thought was one of my best in awhile. oh well: its early |

There seems to be an consensus here that the early votes are low. I've seen the same trend. My entry started with a 7 and at 12 votes is at 4.8. I would expect a high 5 on this one. Not sure what's causing it, but patience has been a good thing. |

Same here, I am at 5.2 for what I would expect to be hovering around a 6. |

There is only 11 votes. This is very early in the game. :) |

I'm expecting a sub 5 and that's what I have. It's so much more pleasant than expecting a good score, maybe even approaching a 6, say in Rule of Thirds, and getting the usual 5.3 after doing everything possible to be DPC friendly... not that I'm bitter... |

Reminds me of the life philosophy that supports pessimism over optimism. When the pessimist's assumptions are proven wrong, it's a good day. For the optimist, not so much. I'm reassessing my original expectations about my entry and declaring an assumption of a sub-three brown ribbon. Feeling better already... |

Just remember that not only is DPL on, but participation has more than doubled, and that a large number of those folks are outstanding photographers bringing their A-game. Many iofus got used to being big fish in a small pond. I think the score adjustment is fair, if painful |

Is it a case of "actually worse photos getting the scores they deserve" or "the voting aesthetic has changed and gotten harsher?"
If its the former, we all need to think inside the box a bit more... |

"Worse photos getting the scores they deserve" that would mean that the lowest scoring images on DPC are bad and the top ones good, surely anyone with eyes and a heart can see that's not the case, a certain type of photo will get the best score here but it's not a better photo for that score. Thinking more inside the box like you said would nearly be impossible here and if it were possible it would kill the place for sure. |

I don't believe its the former for a minute. The latter has to be true.
Otherwise, you could say "gee, since American idol became a television show, every recording artist has had to bring their A-game to compete! Rubbish!
By the way, I don't believe it for a minute, but if it was true, I would be falling into the "worse photos getting what they deserve category."
All while posthumous profits from this nonsense! hah!

Wow, halfway through voting and 27 votes, with zero votes in the past 24 hours. That is pathetic.
