I thought that 717 was supposed to be good for night shots; and I know it is supposed to be low noise. I guess you could stay inside and shoot out the window.

Sony F717 has a maximum exposure of 2" and has no Bulb mode. This turns it out of most of the greatest night shoots. DSLRs had it and many digicams too.

I apreciate this sugestion and hope it go on. Mine cam has a bulb!!!

Night shoots are stunning. I like it so much. But you need a kit to do a great long exposure.

1) a tripod (unforgatable)
2) a remote shutter release to your camera (or a camera with timer mode, I can´t see it on digital). Really, you can´t get sharp without a remote release.
3) a camera with Bulb Mode

the sony f717 can actually take an exposure up to 30 seconds long, and I do it often. Actually just got through taking some night shot, but they will be entered in a challenge so I can't post yet. so, again the sony f717 is the best camera in the world. so if anyone wants to buy one, just see this tread

anyway, just clearing up any confusion.

A friend goes out with me to take some night shoots. He had a F717. But he don´t find how to expose more than 2". Can you explain to me if there´s a secret doing this?

Maybe he's looking at the wrong numbers: f2.0 is the largest aperture. The F717 does go all the way to 30" in shutter priority and in manual mode. In aperture priority the maximum shutter speed is 8", in program mode it's 1/30".

No secret, just avoid using program mode.
