Lets not make this about cops, plural. The first officer you see in the video is talking to 3 or 4 young men and you can hear he is calming things down, and it sounds just like any other party the cops break up every weekend all summer long. Calm things down, break up the party, and get everyone to disperse. Then on to the next call. Business as usual

Then you get the "rolling ninja of ultimate justice" enter the screen trying to chase down someone who it is obvious he is never going to catch, losing his flashlight in the process (too bad it wasn't his gun). Tripping while failing to chase someone down in front of a bunch of people is embarrassing, but he really lost it after that. Pulling the young men the other officer was speaking with, to the ground as if his fellow officer wasn't in the middle of talking to them, and the kids were doing something other than politely speaking with an officer of the law. We have one bad cop. One cop who has lost all semblance of self control. The fact that he is the superior officer on the scene makes things worse. The guy who's job it is to set a calm and professional tone for his subordinates is going bat sh*t.

Unfortunately, one bad cop is a bit like one bad aircraft landing; there tend to be fatalities. Watch the two officers come up on their superior officer when he pulls his gun. You can see by their body language that they know he is losing his self-control. This has all the hallmarks of a psychotic breakdown. Someone who is that out of control, could not have been given the officer of the year in an affluent suburban town like this one. Not if he had always been the loose canon we see in the video.

You know what, for those that want to argue this, it's really simple, give respect get respect, declare war, expect war.

The news today in Miami. Here's the takeaway: they beat the shit out of this guy, then charged him with resisting arrest. The kicker? When surveillance video surfaced they had to drop the charges and then charge the officer instead.. Now, the real question is: how often does this happen where there is no surveillance video to save the citizen?

I cannot speak for anyone else, but as a former law enforcement officer I would really like to see every single officer equiped with a "body cam". Perhaps then we would have almost indisputable evidence as to what exactly did transpire in most instances.

Good solution all around. Not cheap and perhaps a violation of privacy, but most definitely worth a try.

Here's an interesting historical perspective in swimming pools, segregation, and the civil rights movement.

It's about more than just one neighborhood pool party.
