im looking for a new camera bag.
I had a lowerpro 202 sling pack that i really liked (but my old dog chewed the strap off), now im using a really old tamrac bag that is just waaay too small. i'm considering just converting a rolling carryon bag since its the perfect size to carry stuff from job to job.
the sling pak was nice since i could shoot with it on my back, but i think i have too much gear now to to want to wear and shoot with comfortably.
sooo, i'm not sure what i want
It needs to be able to hold a large dslr, 3-4 large lenses, 2 or three speedlights and some other useful items like cards and batteries, some transceivers maybe a small umbrella, pens, a snack or too, large notepad, etc. no need for a laptop though..
if camulet still sold the carryon inserts i'd be set, but they dont. so its either convert the carry on so it doesn't look like i'm an amateur or get something large enough that is functional too. so if anyone has any good idea to convert one...
I think i just need something to transport my gear, not walk around with. |

I have a Lowepro Flipside 300 and a Lowepro 202 (like yourself). The Flipside 300 is a good bit bigger but still can be carried on the back. I bought it when I hired the 300mm lens as this would not fit in the 202 with my camera body etc. |

I use the Lowepro ProRunner 350AW (or possibly 450, they're similar...and my wife bought me it, so I can't quite tell based on the website, and my bag is at home at the moment), it's fantastic, comfortable, has a laptop slot that you could use for your notepad.
Pro Runner 350
Pro Runner 450
Seems that you have to look at the product images on the both pages (350/450) to see everything about them. The main difference is size, but the content pouches are the same between them, from what I can see, based on mine. I truly can't tell which one I have based on the website images (though I think it's the 350)

I don't seem to be able to copy and paste links without my browser crashing, but what I wonder if the padded camera insert that's supposed to go in the carry on sized Pelican case would work in a regular carry on bag. (Search Amazon for item B00131P5NC) |

Its feels very different to the 202 to carry as it is really ought to be carried over 2 shoulders. I love my slingshot bags and how you can just pull out the camera without removing the bag. The 300 requires lying it down on the ground to open the bag with the bag lying flat on its back. The 300 feels a bit too rigid to carry on a casual basis for my liking - I carry my DSLR with me everywhere. I wouldn't feel like carrying the 300 on my dog walks etc as would look like I am off on holiday rather than just having a carry bag.
If you want any photos of the 300 I am happy to take any. I can pop in any of my lenses and cheapo speedlites so you can see how much space there is. |

Here is a photo of the bag with the following:
Canon 70D with 10-22 lens
Canon 17-55
Canon 17-85
Canon 50mm (top right corner - there is room for a large lens here but I don't have any more large lenses
This is the default bag layout - you could obviously play around with the moveable dividers
There is a compartment on the side of the bag for camera cards, pens etc and also you can see there is a zipped bag area at the top of the bag on the inside - this has no internal pockets - you could always put a third speedlite in here or a sandwich.
There is also a zipped pocket in the flap that you open to get to the lenses.
