I know there have been threads posted in the past about this topic but I thought it would be fun to revisit it. I recently got asked about what my studio was like by another member in a PM, and thought I would start a thread to see what other people are using as their studio and/or workspace.

Here is mine...nothing fancy...it has slowly evolved over the last three years and I hope someday to finish the walls with some nice molding that I could also use as a backdrop. In the near future I am going to faux finish my cement floors and give them sort of a marble look.

Sorry these are so small. This topic came up about a month ago in my stock photography forums and their image posting sizes are very small in the forums.

This first one is of my studio with my strobes light boxes and one of my backdrops down. I am photographing a scene for Easter stock images.

These next two are left and right views of my studio, yes I am the queen of props. This is only about half of what I have. I like to have a bunch of stuff on hand for when I do stock shots.

This is my new pulley system I go for my paper rolls. I got the pulley system for around 50$ on amazon. I just attached it to my ceiling. The rolls were around $35 each at a local photography shop. Why I didn't do this sooner is beyond me:

Thanks for posting these. I like the pulleys. I have no dedicated area. I mostly move around some furniture in the living room when I need the space. That significantly adds to the setup and tear down process. I think I need to sell off one of my kids and take over a bedroom.

Let me know how that goes!!!

Jennifer, can you show the end result???

I'll try to get a few shots of "my set-ups"...trust me it's basic...very, very basic!!! My back porch has the best light from 2-4 pm that's where I do most of my setup photos. I do have 2 flash that I have yet to use...grrrrrr Maybe I should figure that out...

This is the only "studio" space I've been using lately ... for photos I just set up wherever ...

Thanks Jen - a great idea for a thread. You look like you have a super set up. I would love a room dedicated to photography but unfortunately I have to just use whatever room I can at the time. I tend to use my living room as it has large patio doors so I can get some nice natural light from these.

I have some cheap stands and a roll of white paper and a roll of green paper. It is a nightmare to set up as the stand keeps falling over. Add children to the equation and it gets even worse.

I attempted to use some cheap speedlites at Christmas for my Festive Card entry but it was a disaster I am sure due to my inexperience with lighting. I ended up just using natural light. And I think on reflection I should have stuck with the white paper background as the green did not seem to make things any easier for removing the background. I would love a pulley system like Jen has - don't think my partner would be too keen on installing one of those in the living room:)

I had a question on one of my photographs and decided to answer it here. Because I'm not sure if they will see it otherwise. (this is one of those times I wish you could tag someone in a post and they would get a message that someone mentioned them in a comment"

quote from skewsme is that a giant tripod with a reflector arm on the left - is the perspective making it look huge?

It is actually a large boom stand to put a light on the end for a hair light or light from above. I hardly ever use it though so it mostly just takes up space. Thinking I might get rid of it. I think it looks like it has a softbox attached but really it is just a softbox sitting in the ground in the background.
