It looks like B&H has been selling refurb Digital Rebels for $729 lately. I picked one up from them this morning.

Is that the kit or body only? Still come with a full year warranty? That's a GREAT price! |

Hi Guys
Yeah, I saw that B&H is selling refurbs for a bit less, but this one isn't refurb'd. Its brand new and unopened from them 2 weeks ago, only problem is that I can't return it so I need to sell it. Like I said, long story.
To clear up any confusion this is the Body Only Kit, it comes with the body, original battery, charger, neckstrap, software, books, cables, etc; whatever else is listed in the B&H description behind the link I posted. It isn't the kit with the EF-S 18-55 lens. No lens included.

Last day before eBay. Any takers? If not then comments on why not? (ie, price to high, you want the kit lens, etc)
Thanks |

I don't need any lenses...I would be buying one for a back up to my other.
I need to know if it has the full original warranty though. In my understanding, if I buy it from you, I won't have a warranty for it. Am I wrong?
I can get it from B&H for $829 and I don't pay shipping because I have a membership to photoshop professionals.
So unless there is a good price difference, plus the absolute certainty that it is new with full warranty, I won't take that chance.
Do you have the bill of sale to show maybe? |

Hi Terry
The warrenty should in no way be affected since this is a new camera. Its never been taken out of the box, and the warrenty card is sitting right on top waiting to be filled out (see picture with box lid open). My insurance replaced this camera after a recent house break in and I only use it for a backup for my 10D body, and to tell you the truth since I leave for my photo-trip here in a month and a half I need the money alot more than I need a backup body.
To answer your question, I do have the invoice from B&H that shows it being drop-shipped to me from my insurance agent. I could make a copy of it for you if you wanted. The shipment was for: 10D, 300D, 50mm 1.8, 100mm 2.8 Macro, 16-35mm 2.8L, 35-350mm 3.5-5.6L, 4 Xtreme 512MB CF cards, 4 xtra batteries, lens hoods, and filters. As much as I would like to keep the 300D body I just can't justify the expense in light of my recent losses (I only had about half the insurance coverage I needed) and the fact that I leave soon for my (expensive) trip.
Anyway, let me know if you need any other info.... thanks!
Dave

Actually I believe Terry is correct. The Canon USA warranty is not transferable without some paperwork -- AFAIK, the only way to do it would involve some amount of "untruthfulness" by declaring that it was purchased as a gift. I believe Canon warranty work requires the original receipt/invoice/whatever to verify the camera is still within the one-year warranty period, and at the same time, verifies the original owner of the camera.
If somebody has information to the contrary, feel free to post, but this is my understanding. |

As I thought I understood things that was only the case if a camera has been registered, ie, the warrently has been filed. Until then the camera is new. Otherwise at the minimum it would require that Canon keep a database of who buys their products and when, and also that their products only be sold from licensed dealers. Kind of silly if you think about it...
Now if someone actually fills out a warrenty card and sends it in, then wants to sell the item in question thats an entirely different story and I'd agree with everyone completely. Thats a case of a used item vs a new item though.

but besides a filled out warranty card, you also need a bill of sale for proof of date of purchase |

Hey Terry, Eddy
Thanks for all the input. I've just finished reading through the small print on the warrenty card and it says "This warranty card and your bill of sale must be presented for warranty service." It makes no mention of anything else being required, names and such. So, again, I would be happy to make anyone interested in purchasing the camera a copy of the bill of sale. I shot an email off to Canon Support to double check, but pretty sure of the answer.

The USA warranty that came with my 1D Mark II says:
"THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL NOT EXTEND TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE EOS DIGITAL CAMERA, OR THE PERSON FOR WHOM IT WAS PURCHASED AS A GIFT"
which is why I said some amount of untruthfulness would be required to "transfer" it... |

Oh! Thanks Eddy, I didn't see that in the 300D warranty card info, though it may be there, I read through it just a few minutes ago but I'm pretty damn tired this evening...
Thanks for the heads up! So, assuming its the same limited warranty then I guess someone would have to claim it was a gift. Good call... |
