I would like to know where we stand on the following suggestions:
1: Being able to browse non-challenge shots by camera.
2: Being able to tell which of our shots have been added as favourites by other people.
3: An open challenge every month.
Improvements to this site seem to happen very rarely, if at all. I do think this is a fine site, but I've never seen a website so infrequently updated, let alone one I pay for.
I would like to propose that we all get to see the list of improvements that are waiting to happen, in order of priority. I would also like us all to see a list of improvements that have actually taken place over the last year. I wouldn't mind paying more membership so some of these things, which really would not take long, might actually happen.

Going back a year and looking at the Administrator Announcement forum, I see the following updates posted:
5/6/03 New version of our menu script to fix compatability with Opera and Safari.
6/18/03 DPCPrints referral program added.
7/31/03 New e-mail options added under "preferences" - Seller's Corner and DPC Prints Promotions.
11/19/03 DPCPrints new payment options - ability to spend credit earned or receive payment immediately via PayPal when account reaches $25.00.
11/28/03 DPCPrints gift certificates available.
1/7/04 New preference option added to be able to hide signatures when reading threads.
3/17/04 Enhancement made to voting page so when you change a vote you don't have to wait for the entire page to refresh.
4/25/04 Updated advanced editing rules.
5/23/04 Frames available on DPCPrints
That was just from a quick look-through... If anyone notices things I missed, feel free to add. Being new to the site council, I'm not sure where new changes stand, but I see a big list of them in the "to be implemented" line. I'll let someone else answer the first part of your question.

Thanks for the reply... I notice a lot of those improvements are for DPC prints, which I don't use. Maybe there should be membership options for us who don't use DPCPrints, so my money goes on DPChallenge updates. |

I completely disagree. See this thread for some more examples of recent site enhancements. |

When I first joined, I said that 100 favourite photos was way too little an amount, and plenty of people agreed. Over a year later, this was changed. I'd like to see this sort of thing happen less often, and easily fixable issues sorted more quickly than in over a year. For example, the issues I raised at the top of this thread can be sorted quickly and easily. I'd like them to happen sooner than in over a year's time.

I would like to see these improvements as well, and in addition, something I have suggested and seen suggested before that would address #2:
I'd like to have a tabular view of portfolio shots with appropriate summary information (e.g., when posted, number of views, number of comments, number of favorites.)

Bump... anyone care to comment on the first three issues?
I love this site, but feel very passionately about the fact that many small things that people want seem to get ignored for ages. I know that the site council want to help, so let's get these sorted out! |

One thing to add to the list jodie put together would be the increase in the number of photos you can have on your favs list, it went from 200 to 500 not to long ago. I really appreciate that improvement.
It wouldn't do much good for us to see the "to do" list unless we had some input on prioritizing the items there. And I'm not sure that would be good considering how some things have gone in the past.
I do feel the frustration that seemingly easily accomplished improvements take a long time to come to fruition. Maybe the newly enlarged SC will be a positive toward speeding up the processes. |

I like those ideas alot I also would like the open challenges not to be in a certain time schedule because I would like to enter some older digital photos and never can becuase of the time factor.

You're requests have been heard.
As you said, these are some small things to do. Based on my experience, changes are implemented regularly and not "announced" necessarily. I believe the ones jodie mentioned were from admin announcements. One that I think of that is not on there is the percentile rankings on the profile page. That was from a request here in the forums, if I remember correctly.
Of the three mentioned, I see #2 affecting/benefiting the largest number of users, and the one (of the three) that has been mentioned the most in the forums. If I were a betting woman, I would wager that that one would happen first.
As far as "getting ignored for ages," try to remember that this site is not a primary source of income for the admins. You're membership fees basically go to keep the site running (and though I don't know the numbers or dollar figures, I wouldn't be surprised if it operates in teh red monthly), and if d/l make any money off of it, it is not much. That beach condo in the Bahamas and the private jet just haven't happened for them yet. I say that because both have "real" jobs, and like many of us, if "real job" responsibility calls, that must be answered first.
Try to be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day. |

The whole idea behind the site is the time schedule. :)

This has been requested many times before. Until a better method becomes available, one thing you can do is periodically go to your profile page and on the left side in the "Statistics" box, click the number next to the "Comments Received:" line. This will take you to a report that shows all of the comments you've received in reverse-chronological order (by default), making it easy to see comments that have been left on all of your photos.

So, why not fix that problem first. :D
We have a Site Council, and we have a Critique Club, so why not a group of developers helping to implement the improvements to the site? Final approval of any implementation and prioritization would, of course, but left to the Admins (or Site Council, if the Admins so wish).
The key to keeping anything moving forward is to not do it all yourself. Delegate; find someone to do it, give them something to do and stay out of their way while they do it. :P
