Hmm... I just bought a 9' cambo camera studio stand, and I live in an apartment with 8' ceilings (a very good reason to finally get my own studio) so my advice is to go for it. if you will actually use the gear for work, you will grow into any purchase. |

I don't use the camera for work, so rather then being a tool, yes, is a luxury.
Anyway, I somehow hoped that I can get some good deals so I strolled to the shops and good news: the Olympus OMD-EM5 II is out of stock at my favourite shops (the better deal ones). Apparently in Hong Kong people don't like small sensors (hehe).
I also went to PanaShop and had a look at the LX100. Great little camera but it did just not make me want it.
A cool offer for Sony A7II @ USD1621 (lowest price from a reputable shop rather then parallel import street cheapyoudontknowwhatyouget shops) for kit with the SONY 28-70 kit lens. Good news again is that I am not sure I like it and if there is that much of a reduction in weight / size from my 6D
So overall I chilled out a bit.
Meanwhile I am pleased with my phone entry in the From Above IV challenge.
I need to change my hobby :((

Funny, I foresee the LX100 preventing (not encouraging) my GAS. Means I get to give the LX5 to my girlfriend, use the LX100 for all but the most meticulous of tele or macro shots. Probably upgrade my body but take the LX100 unless I really need DSLR performance. Heck, the 4K means I could have it as a stand-in for my gopro shots at times. It will become my go to vs specialist camera. |

I'll look into second hand LX100. They are about USD690 around here. There is one that even has some warranty left until Sept 2015.

Here is a short documentary about a young African photograph.
I enjoyed watching it. I found interesting how minimalistic was the equipment used.
In the end the guy says that he does not have what he wants but he's happy with what he has.

Just buy it and a couple of the PRO lenses (12-40mm f2.8 and the 75mm f1.8 and maybe the 40-150mm)
You may well love them soooo much that you will sell all your heavy gear as it just won't leave the house anymore as the new gear is so light and the images are amazing.
But, I would also look at the EM1 as you may prefer that body when you sell your 6D ;)
I actually had the new PRO 40-150mm f2.8 lens last week but sold it to someone in the US
I prefer the size of the 35-100 f2.8 panasonic as I want to keep the system small.
That was the only lens I was looking at but now my GAS is cured. I love all my other lenses.
Keep in mind that I have a lot of similar focal lengths as I do video and sometimes need to set up 3 cameras with similar focal lengths.

Tempting but with a couple of the PRO lenses I need to sell something before I buy.
The options are:
Body only: USD1,210
Kit with 14-150 MK II: USD1,675 (makes the lens USD465)
I note that the MK II is weather sealed and seems like a decent lens. Good build as well.
Also on offer:
25mm F/1.8: USD309
45mm F/1.8: USD205
I also have the Pana 14mm F/2.5
The 12-40mm F/2.8 Pro is second hand around USD710... New USD890
I can not afford to buy an entire new system |

whenever I get the start of GAS for the oly bodies I look at the prices of the lenses that would replace the nikon's I already have, that seems to contain the urge ... so far

Finished...
I bought the LX100. I love the gear I have so however much I liked the OMD EM5II it would have not made sense to start a new system. The 6D is quite light as well for a full frame and that was one of the reasons I bought it.
I did need a smaller, more portable camera and the LX100 is truly a wonderful device. So far the overall feeling is great and none of its limitations bother me (i.e. only 12MP, the shorter zoom, tiny off camera flash)
It has some neat features and a build in EVF.
Tonight I'll try post some pics.
Now I'm off for a trail run...
... And I'll pack a small camera too!
Thank you guys and galls, DPC is awesome. |

Worth mentioning is that I bought a grey market one at USD649. Brand new but with warranty covered just by the shop. I also have 10 days to return the unit if faulty. |

Congrats! And DRAT, as well! I say that because I've got one in the mail, and this is probably the one and only time I would ever be the sole owner of a camera on here :) Enjoy your purchase, it looks like it should be just the ticket for your penchant for street photography, as well. |

Congrats on getting your LX100. I was looking into it when it first came out, but decided I need another camera like I need hole in my head.
Haa, then I pulled the trigger this week and up graded to a Nikon D7200.
I guess I have GAS like everyone else... |

Sure, I can make that happen. Our website is a mess the way I see it and we need to hire a replacement for our web specialist who is no longer with us. Once I get that in order I will work something up. |

Well, come on, out with it. Is it for the 7-14/2.8 or 300/4 new pro lenses? Or are you under an NDA and can't say? |

Yeah, something like that although it is not a formal NDA in writing. I was told about the upcoming announcements and releases back in January so I don't remember much other than the one particular camera that I have been waiting for...The Olympus Tough TG-4. The TG-3 was an awesome waterproof camera that Olympus sold out of because they greatly underestimated the demand. They contracted the factory a certain amount of production based on the declining demand for point and shoots and didn't anticipate that the TG-3 was different enough that it would be a standout in that category. As good as the TG-3 was, the TG-4 will blow it away. For one thing, it will shoot RAW! I've been waiting for this in a waterproof point and shoot. There are quite a few other new features to the replacement as well.
As I said, I can't remember which new products are going to be announced when, but expect a 12mm f/1.0 lens sometime soon as well. |
