Has anyone else noticed that when your image is resized down to fit the browser window it gets softer and loses that sharp look? If I hit F11 it's fine, but at regular viewing the photo gets soft on the downsize.
It's making me rethink the size entry I put in challenges now. I'm considering maybe staying at a max width of 1000 and 800 vertical. :-( |

And here I thought the softness came from my telephoto lenses lolol
I submit mine 1000 by whatever it goes too. |

I'm doing the full 1200 for landscape, but limiting it to 1000 for portrait oriented pics.

| No, I'm finding it looks sharp when it's downsized, but after rollover in full glory it seems softer! |

| I limit my images to 1024px longest side. Can't say they get softer when resized by the browser. |

I have been doing the same thing.

FWIW I try to resize in such a fashion as to avoid "fractional pixels" as I am pretty sure it helps preserve detail -- I use percentages like 25%, 33.33%, 40%, etc. to simplify the computations; this will yield photos with "uneven" sizes, usually somewhat smaller than the maximum.
By having a slightly smaller (in pixels) file, I can also preserve that (theoretically) better detail by using a higher-quality JPEG setting, while still remaining under the file size (in KB) limit. |
