Blaming challenge woes on "trolls" is an easy explanation for bad results.

Do trolls voting patterns affect all images equally? If yes, then the idea of trolls doesn't exist as we all share the pain. If no, then why not? Perhaps these trolls have preferences/opinions in the images they vote on. Perhaps they dislike Christophe's work more than Wendy's and vote accordingly. If that's the case, I'm having a really hard time separating the idea of a troll from a "normal" -- albeit potentially harsh -- voter who votes with his preference. Why should anyone's opinion be more or less valid when assessing mass appeal just because it disagrees with your expectation? It shouldn't.

The fact of the matter is this: we are playing a zero-sum game. It doesn't matter the score we get, only that we do better than our competition.

No, no, no, no, NO!!!! This challenge should NOT be titled 'Guess your score'.

The title should be 'Self-Fulfilling Prophecy', because that's what will happen, just wait and see...

Since the basic (perhaps only) restriction on the voter is the injunction to vote by applying the same criteria (whatever they are) equally to all entries. A "troll" is someone who deliberately assigns a vote to a photo other than what would be indicated by applying that rule.

To me that also applies to someone who votes a 10 on a picture which deserves a 4, though we usually refer to that as "friend-voting" -- but equally (perhaps more) illegal at DPC ...

So you explained yourself. And because you feel incompetent about guessing your own score that means this is a super dumb challenge? That's a bit harsh. Sorry.

I would think anyone who enjoys entering photos here would, on some level, enjoy entering this challenge. Why not... a free study with a twist! Voting will be fun too.... like having two challenges in one!

And I don't understand, in the end, why people would think that patterns of voting on this challenge will be any different than any other.

I've entered but it's killing me that I can't title it. LOL.

Last time there was a challenge (three techniques) I didn't list my 3 techniques in the title like the challenge said and got comment after comment about DMNC - read the description. I've learned from that but do not like challenges that choose my title for me.
