Sooooo, last night I was going through all of my 300 comments since last year..
I made 1,284...
I wanted to see if there was a pattern or if it was just in general comments, came to realize that a lot of the improvements are the settings that the camera were set on, wrong speed, shutter, ISO, something that did not make the photos sharp or the fact of it is something was just not quite right.
Sharpness, focus, softness, the DOF. The favorite comments that I saw that were made were the comments of: ok this is wrong, but this is what to do to make it right... I really loved those because those comments are the ones I am writing down in my already huge notebook. but it was kinda neat to see the few good photos that were made and to se somewhat improvement makes me happy. The more the merrier and to see those really did help and are wanted.
The comments that were made by me, I noticed a lot were of the compisition, lighting was awesome and made that picture (its all in the lighting LOL), the end processing especially on expert challenges intriqued me of how something was made.
Knowing what to work on with the comments has helped tremondously and I thank you all for them, it means more to me than you know... still learning what to say though and thats the hard part of not knowing because of being inexperienced.
How often have you guys reviewed your comments to improve or just take it for what its worth?
If so, what were your favorite comments that helped you that you loved to see?? What is it that you want to see more of rather than being specific other than.. ooo wow, nice... What details in the comments do you want to see or have made?

I don't usually go back and review them, because the ones that are helpful and make an impact, make the impact right away. And it just goes into the bucket of info that is the brain. :)
Some people get really irritated when people say "I would have cropped it like this, or you should have done that..." They figured that they did it that way on purpose and people just aren't seeing their vision. When I receive those, it goes into three categories:
1. they really don't know what they're talking about, and their suggestion actually really sucks.
2. Whoa... how did I miss that?
3. Yeah, I can see that, and I did, but I thought it worked better this way.
No matter how long I'm here, even when I feel like a comment is in the #1 category, I'd still rather receive that comment. Simply because my processing improved by leaps and bounds simply because someone commented "it could be processed better". I got curious, asked the person, and it all started from there.
I like all types of comments, because it gives me an insight as to how others are viewing my photos. I already know how I see them. But I like knowing how they are received. |

I think you'll find people are less apt to get irritated if you say "I would have ..." rather than "You should have ..."
Some of my favorite comments came on one of my favorite last-place images: A couple of examples:

ahhh such a dangerouos position to take...:)
I love when someone creates an opportunity for me to learn... |

People were much better about commenting back then ... but there's no reason to not reverse that trend. :-) |

I have a tendency to say "have you thought about cropping like..." |
