I have spent some time going over this LOL

Pretty simple really, but it will be more of an aspect ratio kinda crop thing which I have to learn still, I have found a few links that
have made the most sense to me.
Should be pretty fun to do..

So, if this is it, this will be a pretty simplistic thing anyone can do, and I will be looking forward to this one. :-))

Square Crop II

For you history buffs...

Square crops used to command more real estate and therefore more attention, but now that the new sizes limits are in they often don't look as good because we have to scroll or they are re-sized to fit.

Note that you are not required to submit entries at the maximum allowable size ... if you think your image looks better at 8-900 pixels square then submit it that way.

is there a certain ratio aspect that we have to do?

1:1 -- that's what "square" means ...

Size matters. Don't be a square.

I generally resize my submissions to 1000px at the long edge. It looks nicer to me than at 1200.

The "cold-water" submission.

I like a max of 1000 high, but would go all the way to 1200 in width.

Well, you had one... (!)

I love the square but won't be entering this challenge. None of my digital cameras have a square sensor. But, ah, the Lubitel...

How to do it

I was having a heck of a time trying to crop a square... I didn't realize I had to actually imput the ratio of 1 to 1 in the crop thinggy boxes LOL

I found this incase of anyone else having issues with theirs... sometimes, it feels good to have the lightbulb come on

If you hold down the Shift key while dragging the Crop tool marquee you will get a 1:1 ratio selection.

Ooooo that's a cool trick too....

I reset the picture to do it. That is way less work... I like that more. Thank you !!

It works with the regular selection tools too: with the rectangular marquee you get a square and with the oval marquee you get a perfect circle.

That is way fun, too bad it doesn't work in lightroom that way LOL

I don't use LR, but I'm surprised it doesn't work that way -- it's a pretty standard control.
