Pollution makes for the best looking sunsets. |

You have coasts, I'm sure it's a fair compromise ;) |

After viewing this link, I understand the sky issue in California. Certainly smog in the sky is an atmospheric phenomenon. It can be very interesting and should increase the participation in this type of challenge. |

Sounds like you are looking for another Weather challenge. Been 11 years since the last one, I'd say its about time again. |

The summer fire season always makes for lovely light. Aren't the San Gabriels on fire over in Cucamonga ?
"Atmosphere" challenge allows for those of us without any discernible weather to participate. We will not be having any weather until October. |

Very good perspective.
Smoke arrived from Idaho and Montana last August to make this photo interesting (to me).
Smoke is always an element of interest. It has a primal effect on humans.

nice photos Richard. Looking at them makes me think this is one of those challenges that should be open for a couple weeks at least, to give time for the right combination of light and atmosphere to develop in the right place. (It also makes me think you should be DQ'd to give the rest of us a chance. :p) |

Well, California has had some recent departure from standard blue skies. Maybe the rest of the country (and world) have something to document, also. At the time of the December solstice, the light is at a unique angle and the day length is at an extreme. Seems like this challenge idea should be bumped up. |

Lucky old' SoCal. Where I live, a blue sky would be the
atmospheric phenomenon!
Two week window would be really helpful.

Hmmm....... ok........ I'll try to figure out how to convey high heat and humidity into an attractive looking photo (so no super-sweaty selfies, I guess LOL) |

I think this exact challenge, like many free studies, would be dominated by the Icelanders. Hard to compete with black rocky lakes and the northern lights.
The suggestion of "weather" would be perfect for May in my neck of the woods, though... |

Zoomed in shot distorted by those funky waves you see in the distance |

Grand Canyon Filled With Clouds In Rare Weather Event
A rare weather phenomenon at the Grand Canyon had visitors looking out on a sea of thick clouds just below the rim.
I like Sandra Bullock. Very cute. But, we need to document some of the very rare weather phenomena. |
