Someone restarted this nice project, see //www.sofobomo.com/. It runs from Nov 01 until Dec 31.
See this thread for SoFoBoMo 2012.
Anyone interested? |

Yes indeed! I've really enjoyed previous goes so i'm up for it. I think i'll have the 31 days later on in the two month window though as i'm already getting my head down during November for NaNoWriMo (Write a novel in a month). Hopefully be a productive few months particularly as we're doing a DPC photo essay this month as well. |

Oh, dang. I think my idea falls outside the time range for taking the pics. Still I have vacation in November, so I'll find something else. I've enjoyed all the other years when I have participated.
Count me in.

Maybe you can make it a "graphic novel" and make use of "overlapping resources" if you know what I mean ... :-) |

My fuzzy month starts on Nov 24 on Terschelling, one of the Dutch islands. No clue yet about the final result, all depends upon the weather. |

I just registered with the site. Not sure how to sign up and declare my fuzzy month. |

i am so glad to have stumbled across this! it's been years since i was able to do this, but it looks like i can carve out a fuzzy month this year. yippee!
for those who want to enjoy some serious dpc nostalgia, here's a blast from the dpc-past. this was my 2nd SoFoBoMo, shot during a Steve Hill/pawdrix NYC G2G, featuring nearly 30 dpc'ers.
happy clicking!

for those of you who participated in the past, if you haven't done so, please take the time to update the new sofobomo with your previous efforts. when the project was resurrected, the new caretakers did not have access to all the previous publications. however, with your help, the sofobomo library can be rebuilt!
all you have to do is go to your account and add a new project. be sure to fill in all the fields appropriately (especially the date fields). i didn't have ready access to my original covers so i just did screenshots in adobe reader and cropped them in photoshop.

I've signed up for this twice and never quite made it!!
Thinking to make it easier on myself I might theme it "The Commute" and use my phone to take the photos, that way I've got absolutely no excuse since I do it 10 times a week! |

This is very cool! I don't have time (or ideas) for a current project, but (defying steep odds) I was able to find my submissions from 2009 and 2011 pretty easily ...
Except for the layout aspect, this is very much like the Photo Essay side challenges people have been doing this year. |

Finished my book, but have not been able to get it to upload. It's a PDF and smaller than the maximum allowed. Anyone else tried to upload? |

Does it give some kind of error? I uploaded my 2012 book (small version, 6Mb) some time ago without any problem.
Btw. I just finished the "making the photos" part (no chance for any remake) and have 3 weeks to go for a book. |

It does give an error, but I have no idea what it means. I tried to copy it, but couldn't. I sent them an email, so hopefully they will respond.
You have three weeks--no problem! :-) |

If the filename contains spaces or "special" characters it can cause upload problems. You can try changing the name of the PDF file (not the title of the project) and see if that makes any difference.
Also, make sure you're not clicking on the link to upload the cover image ...

Definitely on the PDF uploader. Changed the name of the file, but still got the error.

The error looks like the web site lost its connection to its MySQL database.
There are two links - one for the cover image (limited to 10M), and another for the book. Regardless, one would think they'd do a size check rather than just passing back a db error message.
Me thinks this is a contact the web site, report the error message, and try again (trying to hit a time window where there is low demand on their server / db).

I sent them a message on Saturday. Still haven't gotten a response. Will keep trying! Thanks for your opinions. |

Try using a different browser. The DPC uploader doesn't work with some browsers either. Or maybe take the file to the library and try uploading from a different address, with a possibly faster connection. |

My guess is that it is a database configuration error (max_packet_size is too low). I got the same error when uploading a 67Mb file. Doesn't help you, since you can't change that yourself. The only quick solution is to use low-res images. |

If you are intending your PDF to only be displayed on screen (not printed to paper) there is no advantage to using images larger than 96dpi at the final displayed size in your layout. You can also try increasing the degree of compression when creating the PDF. |

Made it smaller. Still, if they are not going to allow 67 MB files, they should not have a 100 MB limit. |
