Free studies normally permit the photograph to be taken any time in the preceding month. I assumed it was the same with the Camera Phone Free Study, but I can't see any extra rules saying this in the challenge description.
Will photos taken between 1st and 30th Sept be acceptable?
If not, I suggest that the rule be added imminently as many may have made the same association I did.
Edit: In fact I see that: "I submit that my entry was based on photograph(s) taken with a digital camera on or between Sep. 24th 2014 and Sep. 30th 2014." Was this an oversight? Or is it the rule for this challenge?

That is clear. What isn't clear to me is whether it was an oversight or not. FS-ses normally span a month.
And the reason it's not clear is because "free study" says "one month" to me, not "one week". I reflexively submitted an image out of date to the challenge without thinking. I'm only thinking about it now.

Are you somehow missing the September 2014 FS challenge?
Free Study 2014-09 · Advanced Editing
Free Study for September 2014.
Previous cell phone challenges have been free study and 1 week submission. |

"Free Study" means "No Assigned Topic": it doesn't imply any particular time format at all. It just happens that most of our Free Studies have been month-long.
As Richard points out, the previous camera-phone challenge was also a 1-week Free Study.
The timing as displayed on the challenge details page is correct: your camera phone image may not have been taken before September 24th DPC Server Time. |
