The autumnal equinox occurs worldwide on September 22, 2014. The growing season begins in the southern hemisphere and ends in the northern hemisphere. The daylight and night time periods are equal. Show us your best interpretation. Advanced ruleset.

How about just calling it equinox? In the southern hemisphere we will be experiencing our vernal equinox as you experience your autumnal. I know that your description acknowledges this fact but the challenge title should also allow for it.

Point well taken! The name of the equinox can be ambiguous since seasons of the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere are opposites, and the vernal equinox of one hemisphere is the autumnal equinox of the other. I support your good suggestion for clarification. The title should be, "Equinox".

The exact time is 02:29 UTC on September 23 (yes, it's still Sept.22 in the western hemisphere). I wonder if we could all click our shutters precisely at this time ;-).
