It has been over a year now. :-)

Description:
Take a photo that effectively uses noise grain to make an impact on the viewer. Use of high ISO recommended, adding noise in post production is OK too.

Jack up your ISO or add it in post. But you need a photo that carries it well, or you'll just end up with a noisy photo.

Is there certain subjects that look better with grain over others?

I was surprised to see the most recent Image Grain VI challenge was just done last year. And, six repeats is enough for a long time. On newer cameras, the sensor noise is much less. For those of us who strive to minimize noise with good photographic techniques (like proper exposure of a scene), this challenge seems to be anachronistic. But.... Good luck. And, have fun!

Ah yes, repeat challenges ... they do happen. Why, look at the front page today and you'll see 'Shadows VIII' (yep, that's an 8!) challenge waiting for entries.

Today's cameras have really helped us with controlling dark, detail-less, shadowy areas in our photos. Pretty much every camera offers HDR settings to control and keep some detail in those hard to control shadowy areas. :-)

Kind of a throwback to intentionally catch shadows, eh? Mostly tongue-in-cheek here with this rebuttal, as using shadows in an image is a technique well worth using today as it was yesterday ... and noise in a photo can be appropriate in some scenarios as well.
